Posting Web counters in your registry sets----------Detailed Instructions with medium sized images!!

Since I have been asked by enough people how to create a web counter in your registry sets I have decidied to create a thread that just give instructions on how to do this, complete with screenshots.

First you need to choose a site that has web counters, I choose Andale and will give instructions for that site although there are many others.

After choosing a site like www.andale.com, you create an account on their mainpage. After creating an account, they will probably offer you some of their products since that is how they make their money. Just answer no thanks and go to your account home (unless you need some of thee products).

Once at your account home page, click on a button at the top called "auction tools." This will bring up another tool bar below the main one that has more choices. Choose "counters," Then click on " View my counter hits." Once you have done that you will come to a page that looks like this:

In the orange you can see where I have clicked on auctions tools and counters.

In the green, you need to select the button called "Andale web counters" This will bring up a menu that will show you all of your web counters and not your auction counters. After selecting this button you will see a page like this:

This is what my menu looks like when I created this thread. I have blocked out all of the numbers of my counters so you guys don't accidentally use them. This screen is your web counters detailed page. You can edit, delete, create new counters, change the style of your counter, etc all from here. In the Purple you see a button that says "create new." Click it and it will ask you for the specifics of your new counter. Enter a counter name like "joe's Lincoln set" or whatever you like. Then click "continue" when you are finished editing. It will take you to a page with code on it that look like this:

Copy this code and put it into the "description" section of your PCGS registry set. Now go to the page and you will see your new counter!

In the second screenshot that I posted, there is a button below all of your counters that says "edit counter style"
Choose the counter you want to edit by checking the box next to it on the left and then select that button. It will take you to a menu to edit that counter style. The options to edit the counter are under a section called
"Digit Style." Once finished editing the counter select "edit counters" and you are finished.

If I take the same code, and enter it in all my registry sets, will they be independent of each other? or will they all show the same number. ie if you look at one of my sets, will it register on all the sets, since the code is the same.

If the code is the same, it will be the same counter. You must create a different counter for each set if you want them to be count independently. If you want to count the number of times someone visits any of your sets, then you could use the same code to accomplish that.

I set it up so that any one person counts ONE time...no reloads. You do have the option to count every hit, but if I chose that I would have to fun it up to 500 just for yucks.

I have a LOT of trouble in the last step...'Andale web counters". It takes a few minutes to load and then I get "thanks for looking"

I also faced the same issue last Friday. I gave up

Update: Thx for Saintguru's help. Simply close all the windows and keep on clicking. The best time to click is after the mid-night (or 3am). When traffic is light, you will be able to get in.

I just gave Saintguru another hit. It is already upto 54. Nice set and great photos. I am glad you took the time to do a proper job on this set.

Side note, I created a seperate counter for each registry set. When you go look at the counters it the Andale site you can see which one has the most hits. i.e. you can see them all with one glance and do not need to go visit your own registries to find out.

A note on the time lag and then the nice thanks for looking message. Mornings are impossible as everyone and their mother are checking for business purposes. It is accessible after dinner time everyday. I gave up looking in the morning or early afternoon.

You are very welcome and I would like to add, great choice for a registry set. I am working on the lincolns as well but I am only focusing on the memorials and then I will work my way back to the wheats.

Mine reset to 0001 on the MPL registry, but didn't change on the Buffalo. Glad I'm not alone.

All 12 of my Registry sets had the Andale counters. I loved them and I had a count of 1090 on my Memorial set. Today, they were all reset to 1. I deleted them all. What a shame.

I have informed Andale that some of their counters have reset to zero, while others have been deleted. They did respond and said their engineering department is working to correct the problem.

If you know you were at 1090 you can start a new counter and enter that as the start number.
I only know this because after I got over the frustration of losing my counters on three sets I'm working I went
to the Andale (vendio) site and checked it out. Let me know if I can help. Gil

They have not indicated to me yet that they will be able to reinstall our counters with accurate hit counts. But, I sure hope they can. If not, we'll have to reinstall the counters and start with a number that you feel is accurate.

Nice to hear from you. I actually have started to reinstall the counters on all 12 of my sets. However, to insure accuracy, I'd like Andale to retrieve the actual counts. My memory is exact on 4 of them, but the other 8, I really can't remember.

Well, we can all see the Registry sets have gone mad. Maybe the counter problem we have is related to PCGS and not Andale.

Well, I finally received an explanation from Andale. They did experience a technical giltch in their system. It affected some counters, but not all of them. The only solution is to reinstall every counter yourself. And,
they could not provide a starting count number. You would have to use a starting count from memory. Sorry for the long delay, but Andale was very slow providing answers. I hope everyone's counters are accurately working now.
