I sorta like my microscope for getting into things like overdates and other similar anomalities.
A computer is useful as well for recording and documenting a collections growth over time and how I have changed my collecting style.
I would think knowledge of what your buying would be #1

My library ( hard cover and electronic)
Past records and pictures of sales at auction ( Much of this is now available through electronic sale archives by auction houses supplemented by hard copy)
Loop
Microscope for overdates, MPD, etc
Electronic inventory of my collection and description of coins
Colleagues ( collectors and dealers) to discus details and gain opinions.
A readily available bank storage facility (SDB) for rare coins
What I do not have is an ultra-thin micrometer to measure size of dates, etc.

<< <i>Jon, if it is a coin for submission or insertion to an album, a cotton glove or soft leather golf glove is a good tool for me. I hate oils and fingerprints on Mint State coins.

I like to use the drill to put holes in my coins so that I can tie a string through them and not have them fall out of my pocket.
