Suggestion, idea

If one was to come up with an original numismatic idea that benefitted
grading company's and collectors alike, and this idea increased their profits
and made the hobby more enjoyable for collectors. Would the grading company
PCGS/NGC/ANACS compensate such idea? Anyone submit an idea to a grading company
and end up getting a perk for them using it?

Depending on the idea....try patenting it.....then see if they like it.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

You would probably get a note from their lawyer stating that they don't entertain or review ideas from outside sources.

This is the way it was with other companies ( non-numismatic) I worked for in the past.

Sorry, but someone has already proposed edible slabs.image

Now that's an interesting idea. If you do not like the grade you get back from the TPG, all you have to do is eat the chocolate around the coin, and at least you will feel a little better. And if your wife throws you and your coins out of the house or you get stranded on a desert island with your collection...
  • They could slab chocolate coins in edible slabs image

Patent the idea, then approach TPGs with a lawyer. The only way to protect your interests.
  • hmmm. interesting replies. lawyers, patents. it sounds a little imposing.
i was hoping for something a little more old fashioned.
when i was in the air force, we had a form you filled out with your idea.
If the idea was adopted and it saved them money, they would kick down
a little. It was a little easier to get innovative ideas from the peons.

A patent will run you in the $10,000 range. You can however start the process for about $200 and that gives you the exclusive rights to "it" for 12 months. This is the patent pending process. You can shop the idea around during that year and try to get a company interested in your product. If a company takes the bait and wants it you have them pay the remaing fees to get the patent completed so you're only out of pocket for $200. The patent would still be in your name and you would have to work up an agreement for how long the company would have exclusive rights to sell the product. After that period of time is over it'll be up to you to renew with that company or take it on yourself or shop it to another company. If it's really that good of an idea, get a patent attorney...this isn't simple stuff.

They also have a form. They call it the "Ideas are a dime a dozen" form. Then they send you a dime and demand eleven more ideas.

well, i may as well come out with it here on the forum. I'm condemned to work til i die anyway
  • btw, thanks cladiator for the process info. I'm going to disclose this idea
but light bulbs go off now and then, maybe i'll try a patent in the future.

here it is: think PCGS 7070

due to the wild popularity of dansco 7070 books and people having to crackout
slabs for the book, we (grading company) are introducing our exclusive PCGS 7070
    slab album.

sort of like a po man's registry. They would make their money by selling the albums
and the collector would increase their enjoyment from not having to resend in their coins
for grading when upgrading or just deciding to sell out.

    Anyone like it image
