MrsSpud won an 1885S Gold $5 at Coin Club (and more), what would it grade? :)

We had a pretty incredible Charlotte Coin Club Christmas Dinner the other night. MrsSpud got sworn in as a Director (to the best of my knowledge she is the first woman to ever be elected as an officer in the traditionally all male club). She was also awarded an Unc 1942 Walker for contributions to the club during the year, then they had drawings and she also won an Unc 1905 RB Indian Head Cent and then she won the grand prize of the evening- an 1885S $5 Gold Piece. I was awarded a circulated 1841-O Dime and I won a 2005 SAE in the drawings. We also were fortunate enough to sit at the same table as Jamie Franki and his wife (Jamie is an honorary member of the coin club). It was a truly amazing evening.
Here is a picture of the gold coin. This is the first real gold coin either one of us has owned and we really don't know how to grade them (with the metal being soft and all that). I know it is hard to do from a picture, but can anybody give a guess as to what this would grade? Also, is the outline of the shield supposed to be doubled on the left like that? Thanks

I would grade that EF45 to AU50 or so.
As to the doubled left side of the shield, it's normal.

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

so it is still AU? lets see.
lots of luster left. good sign. very important.
there is no single large nick i can see, but i do count several small
ones just in a single glance. AU58 no way.
but hey, rims look very clean.
saying it is XF45 simply will not do with all that luster.
i think it would be a PCGS AU50 or even a 53 due to it being a common half eagle (1.2 million minted easy).
very nice coin, raw value would be about 150-170 on ebay.
slabbed by PCGS 200 in AU50-53.
