1932 $10 Indian

Last week I was toying with the idea of purchasing a 1932 MS64 $10 Indian. In the end I decided it wasn't
worth spending over $2,000 for such a large mintage and population coin and bought a couple of Saints instead. What's your opinion on the 1932 Indian?

What's your opinion on the 1932 Indian?

In the past, I would have agreed with you. In a recent post, BillJones changed my opinion. It is the only depression era gold coin and gold coin from the 1930's available to most collectors. At some point, I would like to purchase an original warm orange-gold one in MS-64.

Only if it is the last coin you need to fill in the set. Or you get a great deal on it. Or just need it for a type set. Which Saints did you get and what grade? Mintage on those are pretty high also and premiums on the $10 Eagles tend to have less fluctuation. My personal preference would be to get a semi key $10 Indian date in a higher grade. I just got the 1911 MS66 in the pic below( I realize it is not key but being a higher grade it should hold the premium paid). I am working on a low grade 20th century set but wanted one nice example of each type of coin. Next up is an MS66+ Gaudens coin. In about 20 years or so I hope to complete the 20th century gold set. $2 1/2, $5, $10, $20.

Any how to make a long story short. I don't think you can go wrong for the short term just look for the deals because prices are getting out of hand. I just sold a 1908 MS65 Gaudens coin on e-bay for $1600 that I paid $1150 for a month ago. I liked the coin but could not turn down the profit.

I think that ANY $10 Indian you buy in MS64 or better will do just fine......I know I am biased but believe it.....

The gold page in my Dansco 7070 is complete except for the $10 Indian hole. I came close to buying a 1915 NGC AU-55 I saw at the last show I attended, but decided to hold out for a 1932 in a similar grade instead. I love type coins from the first or last years of issue, and don't need a no-motto $10 for completeness sake. Guess what coin I'm shopping for!

Why don't you buy a 1932 MS62 instead. I just picked one up in an old PCGS holder MS62 and it looks really nice and wasn't that expensive, I paid $600.

I had the some idea and acted on it. Recently purchased a 1910 as well as a 1926 and 1932 in MS64. While I know these were readily available for as little as $900-1200 only a few years ago, that's ancient history now.

$2000 is stiff however unless the coin is a really PQ with great luster and orig surfaces. I passed on a lousy looking NGC64 Indian for $1950 at the White Plains show. Would have passed at $1900 too.
Others I were quoted were at $2000+ each and at the time also too much money imo.

Average coins without spots are fetching $1850-$1950. I'm happy to pay $1875 - $1900 for anything decent in a NGC/PCGS holder. I cannot see these dropping in price unless gold takes a massive header. $10 Libs and $5 Libs as well offer similar value. The $5 LIbs are quite undervalued and rarer than the Indians. In the last big market they were priced the same. Watch for $5's to be promoted next.
