What coin have you recently "lost"

I have a system for labeling my coins with a sticker on the holder with where from, when, and how much. Going over my purchase records I realized I may have lost a coin. Did I? Coin should be in slab holder in numerical order but its NOT there. In a panic looked for the Lincoln 1911-D MS65RED everywhere except the drawer where I apparently put things when I am too lazy to log them.It appears I got stupid (or stupider depending on who you ask) and put it in a drawer before I did this and did not log it as received and forgot. What is the most memorable coin you have actually lost or misplaced? Take care, Mark

I lost an EF 1797 British Cartwheel twopence in a move. It was worth less than a hundred bucks but it was a nice example.

I have two coins on my AWOL list, both PCGS slabs. First is a 1884-CC Morgan MS64 and a 1890-S Morgan MS63. I did have a 1891-CC "Spitting Eagle", missing but that was found.

I'm more likely to find coins I don't remember buying.

Did a full inventory once, and found an extra F-12 1866 Shield Nickel. Was in the database, and in the coin box.....I just don't remember buying it. image

I lost a 1910 $2 1/2 Indian earlier in the week, and found it again in a box of darkside coins

    I don't think I've ever lost a coin either.

I lost a couple of half eagles once for about 2 months. I finally found them in my mail box.image

I failed to remember I gave up waiting for them to get graded. Got a few freebie orders from this one. image
  • Somewhere in my house rests a 2 x 2 box with about 40-50 draped bust halves and quarters that haven't been seen in about 7-8 years.......

  • Picked up a tiny non-denominated gold token while traveling for work (made by Nathan Joseph circa 1910). I was in the hotel and decided to take a picture, post it on this forum, and get more info. I turned my back for a second and it was gone. Searched for over an hour. It had fallen off the coffee table, on to the couch, under the cushions, and wedged in the metal springs of the sofa-bed.

"I'm more likely to find coins I don't remember making".

And then there is the: "Wall of Shame"

(Actually boxes and boxes of PCGS "disgusted grades" as I call them, tucked away in the bottom drawers of my SnapOn RollAway.......Truth hurts don't it.

Of course, as histroy has proved, after a year or so, they usually pan out market wise. image
  • I lost a nice VF 1799 Bust Dollar about a year ago and I'm still looking for it. I just hope that one of my son's friends (or my son) didn't snitch it. You never know.

Lost track of a 1958 Linc NGC proof 67 Cam. I knew I turned it in for a crossover to PCGS (at no minimum grade). Searched all my PCGS stash to no avail. Finally found it in the NGC box. It was inadvertantly sent back from grading with a DNC. It will go in again.

I, once again, have misplaced an 1872 Indian Head Cent that I bought for $1.75 from the local shop about two and a half years ago. It was in their junk box. They obviously through in a bunch if IHCs at once without checking the dates. image This is the second time I have misplaced it.

However, I know of another coin that is with it. I got a sintered planchet Ohio quarter from a bank roll when they first came out. I put both in the same flip-one on each side, and put it somewhere that I would not lose them. Now, if I could just remember where the heck I put them. image

An 1887/6-O ANACS 62PL slab. I was examining it for date and mintmark positions for comparison with a suboptimal online image of another 1887-O (which incidentally was not 7/6 based on the examination). Couldn't find it for days. I wasn't worried terribly but it was driving me crazy as to where I laid it down.

If you read my previous reply, you will see I lost my 1872 IHC. Well, I found it yesterday. It was still in the flip at the bottom of the safe. image I am happy again.

Lost a 1906-O barber half dollar that was in my desk drawer with a bunch of others in 2x2's. When I closed the drawer, it got pushed out by a piece of plastic and fell down inside the desk. Found it 1 year later when moving when I cleaned out the desk.

My local dealer "lost" my avatar coin some time ago. Still trying to get the situation resolved almost 9 months later....Mike
