What is the next big thing in numismatics

The TPG"S were the big thing about 20 years ago. Coin Auction houses are now really big. Ebay for example. What will be the next big thing that will have a toll in this hobby good or bad.
Will it be the price of metals, a computer grading company, Bill Gates enetering the market. Any thoughts?

The 100 point grading system will be jammed down our collective throats.
Check out my current listings: https://ebay.com/sch/khunt/m.html?_ipg=200&_sop=12&_rdc=1
The way gold is rising I think everyone will jump on the bandwagon. At least for the first year or two while gold approaches $650 an ounce. Who knows after that, maybe a market crash and then a couple of low mintage years. Then we have the making of a real collectable.
and he'll be holding some corn with an "extra leaf" ????
....just a guess

Or maybe that's my wish?

Alright shoot me now - that's a really bad joke - not the least bit funny. I'm embarassed to have humiliated myself by posting an idea like that.
Actually , what will happen is illegal Mexicans will gain the majority vote in this country one day. Soon every elected official will be mexican and before you know it we will merge with Mexico to become the United States of Mexica.
Any guesses what our currency will be?
Any further guess what the official language will be?
but would require a fair amount of venture capital and proper management to get it off the
ground...
PM me for details if you're seriously interested!

Unfortunately most will not recognize the NBT coming and in fact will probably critisize it, but in retrospect (once it is successful) people will point back to it as the NBT.
BTW there is a thread with almost the same title a few months back.
<< <i>I have a viable idea for a venture that could perhaps be both wildly popular and profitable >>
Sorry, but "slabs that you can eat" is probably not going to be a really popular idea
<< <i>The 100 point grading system will be jammed down our collective throats. >>
I see the 100 point system as nothing more than a way for certification services to make more $$$. If it takes off and becomes the prevailing system, all of those older slabs will need to pass on through and get regraded, many multiple times when they fail to make the minimum on your form. If they all adopted NGC's "star" designation (or some form of PQ) and applied it in all grades (imadine a AG-03star), we'd have a 140 point scale.
This is getting to splitting hairs though. I know people with moderns might argue with me on this, but the differences between MS69 and MS70 are generally so indescernable that the microsopic distinction should never have been relevant from a pricing standpoint. The problem with our surrent system is that Sheldon put much more granularity in the circulated side.
Can someone explain PCGS's rationale for advicating a 100 point system now? Most of our 70 points are unused and unusable by the numismatic community. We probably never needed MS61 and MS69 (PR61 & PR69) on the uncirculated (proof) side as both 60 and 61 are basal with no consideration for choice and 69 and 70 are virtually indistinguishable levels of absolute perfection. The stars and 64.5 type grades are overdoing it.
To support the sight-unseen market better, there should simply be a standardized set of qualifiers to distinguinguish characteristics that have variable appeal. We have seen DMPL, FBL, FB, FS, FH and the others heartily embraced and appreciated by collectors. Others could be admitted to related the toning and color on silver for instance. DLRC has their device already. Then again, we are already in an age where coin imaging is making sight-unsees a lot less of an issue. Perhaps the next big thing in the hobby will be 3D imaging that allows the buyer to walk through a coin essentially and allow the seller to apply such a presentation using easilyu affordable hardware and software.

OMG I hope not! If it is, then a 1000 point system would not be too far off in the distant future (hey we did it once!) and then the grading system just might collapse! The young numismatists could readily accept it but there are literally millions of coins out there with the old system! I seriously think it would be detrimental to the hobby.
The name is LEE!
Hopefully, it won't happen but I can see something along these lines affecting the hobby one day.

Edited to add: This is not a joke/spoof post.
(Just think of city streets clogged with a hundred thousand horses each generating 15 lbs of manure every day...)

Hadn't thought of that! This is even tastier, though...and nothing to do with showcases.

Apropos of the coin posse/aka caca: "The longer he spoke of his honor, the tighter I held to my purse."
Coin education might be the next wave in numismatics. Many people can't afford the better coins but would love to know about them.
With the internet the way it is your average Joe/Jane can learn as much or little as they want. What you could before only read in a Red Book / ect. you can now see in a bright clear photo and enjoy the beauty of a coin you lust for. With all the info.
My grandchildren. The heirs to my collection! (Just not to soon I hope)

Next big boom in market will be aluminum coins....cheap to make most abundant metal
But the credit/debit cards will have pictures of coins in various states of circulation on them.
Then you can slab the credit/debit card with the coin picture on it.
I can see it now on the slab:
Visa
MS90
