Crossover grading question

I have a 1959 Lincoln cent that is graded by ICG at MS67RD, any opinions on submitting to PCGS even if I am satisfied with the current grade from ICG.

Basically, I am trying to figure out if it is worth getting a coin slabbed in a PCGS case at the same grade if it is currently in an ICG case.

For selling purposes only.

Cheers,
Michael

  • IN a PCGS holder the 1959 would easily bring nearly 2000$ ;
    I would guess in it's current holder you would be lucky to get 200 bucks !

  • That is what I suspected but wanted to confirm with others as I have not tried a crossover before.

    Obvioulsly getting that grade from PCGS will be a tough path, but seems to be worth the $20 to try. Now I have to figure to crack or not to crack.

    Thanks

    Michael:

    Speaking in broad generalities, there's a simple reason why an ICG 67RD sells for $200 while a PCGS 67RD sells for $2,000 -- the coin-buying marketplace tends to not believe ICG grading.

    The sub-message here is, an ICG 67RD almost certainly won't be a 67RD at PCGS, whether submitted raw or in the holder. As such, I would urge you to be very cautious about cracking out the ICG coin and sending it in raw, because it might come back a 65.
    When in doubt, don't.
