1964 proof kennedy question

Can anyone help me identify this. I looked in The kennedy half dollar book by James wiles and couldn't match it. It appears to have a quadrupled B and hair. I haven't figured out how to take pics of details on proofs yet.

    It's not an AH.
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

The I in IGWT looks thick too. No spread there? I'll look for the quad B when I get to the office.

Try looking at the Coneca site - here is the link.

This is a most useful site for attempting to match many varieties and RPM's. Unfortunately it does not contain any pictures, so you have to go on the verbal descriptions only.

Let us know if you can deterimine which variety it is from those descriptions.

  • I tried the link, and none of them refer to a quad or even a trippled B. The I in liberty is also doubled or trippled It is hard to tell because of the mirror. Could this be machine doubling?

Yes - it could be machine doubling. It was very common on proofs from the early 60's to the early 70's.

If the doubling is flat and shelf-like it it likely machine doubling. If there are notches around serifs then it is most likely a doubled die.

Wish I could help more, but without pictures, it is pretty tough.
