How would you remove the damage on this slab?

It inteferes when I try to take a picture of this coin, and it is very annoying. You can see it continue on through "United". Is it hopeless, and I need to get it re-holdered, or could I use some kind of product and it would mask it a little?

Since you've nothing to lose, try some toothpaste--rub it briskly with a soft cotton cloth.

You may want to use Meguires plastic polish (not the cleaner or "all in one" plastic polish). It will take a lot of work, but it will remove small scratches and clarify larger ones.

I kinda made it worse with toothpaste

I think that I should save myself the trouble and re-holder it, or send it in to try and get the star designation

I wouldn't send it in to be reholdered just yet. I've used Brasso on some of my slabs, and it works great.

In fact, the NGC holders come out looking brand new.

Try Novus Plastic Polisher no. 2 from your local automotive store (don't get the fine or the heavy, get the medium)

I regularly send in my coins for reholder. It is cheap, works better than any of the methods people use to pretty up plastic, and it takes very little of my time.
