Do you get annoyed if your loved ones aren't proud of you for all the hard work, effort, talent you

into making a nice collection? Do they just think of it as a bunch of metal discs or whatever, as nothing special? Does that annoy you?

I doubt I instill much pride in family members due to collecting. They are ocassionally impressed
by something in the field and will talk about coins a little. My brother collected as a child so un-
    derstands more of the nuances.

They've all had a least a little primer. image

  • My ex had no interest in my coin collecting. My three children showed interest from time to time. Now I have four grandchildren, and one of them, a six year old grandson, is fasinated by coins. Yesterday I showed him pictures of thirty of the top coins, in my opinion, and asked him which one was his favorite. He quickly chose the 33 St. Gaudens, but added that he also liked the MS66RD 77 IHC. Boy was I proud.

(Old man) Look I had a lovely supper, and all I said to my wife was, “That piece of halibut was good enough for Jehovah”.

(Priest) BLASPHEMY he said it again, did you hear him?

Don't expect people to be proud of you for something they don't understand.

Hell, if you have a hobby to impress others, I think you may want to re-evaluate your desire to participate in that hobby.

They might say that is a nice one, but that is about it.....

Hard for a non-collector to get excited about such things.....

I think that is why alot of us are on here, so we can talk and so pictures with people that understand.....

No, if I was hellbent on impressing everyone else, I'd have chosen to spend more time with the cooking.
  • What you give is what you receive. Being interested in others and their pursuits will produce a return interest in your coins. I find those who collect tend to be a little self centered and many of our loved ones find us aloof. Put away those coins for awhile and be genuinely interested in your family. You will reap many benefits by demonstrating to them that their interests are important as well.

Doesn't bother me a bit unless they are really critical. "You paid what?! For a nickel?" Especially, when they have "money lost" hobbies (that can't be liquidated, ever) or no hobbies at all other than criticizing. I just drop it when the conversation goes that way. Some people just don't get it and I don't care. I'm having fun.

For some reason they seem intrigued by coin values unless I tell them I actually had to pay close to that to own it.
