Coin sellers on Ebay. Do you do anything differently in December?

It seems to get tricky, as we get close to Christmas and the New Year. What changes, if any, do you make?

  • I try to limit my visits to the Post Office.

  • Yes, the trips to the PO get just awful this time of the year. I'm also leaving the country so will stop listing items until the New Year. Once the current ones finish, that is it for 2005!

edited to add: Since Christmas is a Sunday I would think that isn't the best day to have an auction end. Dec 31 is another date to avoid having auctions end.

Post office lines get incredibly long this time of year, as does transit time for many packages and letters. I also notice that at this time of year it takes most customers much longer to finish with their transactions compared to usual.

If the item intended to be sent is anything of relevance I use FedEx almost exclusively from late November until the new year.

I took a beating on my coins last night. I did a little searching and it seems sales down. One would think they would be up because of Christmas, but I think it is the opposite because everyone is out and about doing Christmas shopping.

Coins are largely "discretionary" funds type of items.
You are now hitting "end of year" which is not always a lot of money.....people, in general, will put gifts, etc, over coin purchases.

So, there are less funds for coins (how many people get coins for presents? And, if you did, were they "good coins"? I wouldn't want my wife to buy me coins as I don't think she would get a good deal as she doesn't know the market or hobby.).

So, some items will do ok, but I think most will stagnant or lose a little steam.

I, however, plan to be on the lookout for some nice cheap purchases as others let them languish image

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I quit listing, coins and car parts, about 2 weeks ago for auction style sales. Coins are still in the Ebay Store. Probably no more auction style listings untill the second or third week of January.

BTW a line of three people is huge in the Post Office where I take packages. Of course thats one half of the population where I live.

I don't change anything. Best part is, listings quiet down just before and after the holiday so there's less competition.

Actually, after the holidays, I usually start listing everything that may have been hanging around for the past year that I've taken in trades, or that just can't seem to find a home for.

  • It probably isn't a great time to be selling coins on eBay with some of the disposable income going towards Christmas, but I agree with BigD5 that there doesn't seem to be a lot of competition out there if you want to list some coins that are a bit harder to find. I'm parting out my Jeff Proof Registry set ending this Sunday, so I guess we will see how that theory turns out. Hopefully the collectors end up sniping at the end. Then again.... I could get trounced. image
