Toning and getting coins rated, a few questions

Toning
Is there anything I can do to get coins to tone? How do the various colors come up? Under what conditions could I get an icy blue cent like one of those in that topic?

Alright, I understand you send the coins in, but how can you trust the mail with your nice coins? I mean, If I'm sending in my Grandpas old coins, I want to be super careful, and I undestand shipping insurance, but...

Also, do they grade foreign coins at all?

    Envelopes for toning, Registered Mail to send the coins off to your preferred grading service......

    They grade foreign coins, costs a little more. The main factor in the color of that blue coin may have been the passage of 100 years, if you're talking about that Indian proof cent.

    So I'd just stick, say a bunch of pennies into a buisness envelope? Or like, a specific coin envelope? Would the plastic on those envelopes you get in junk mail do anything if the coin was placed under it? Would it take long?

    Well I understand it probably takes a while, but I don't think I have a single toned coin, and I have....tons of coins...

    CodyB, might I suggest you buy coins that have already toned. What you seem to want is a short-cut method to toning your own coins which many would consider unethical.

    Many dealers sell attractive toned coins, saving you the hassle of creating them yourself. And you can pick the colors you want! image

    Anyways, no, I have no problem leaving a bunch of pennies in an envelop for years, and it really interests me as to how it happens, it seems to me, if I figured out how to get certain colors or whatever, it could be a great thing for my grandkids to inherit. I mean, if I was like, a 6 year old, and I had learned my beloved Grandfather had passed, and he left me his coin collection, well I'd dive into looking through that coin collection,and imagine if, after going through the entire collection there lay one envelope left, and figuring that those coins were probably rather horrid if they were kept in some junk mail envelope, I'd open it, and view some toned 2000 coins in their full splendor. It'd be awesome
