I like replying to them with fake information, then I get follow up requests because they couldn't access my account.

  • If you get anything that looks like it is from eBay or Paypal, it is probably a phishing email from crooks. Be very careful about opening it and NEVER click the link to send them info in their email. They will either get your personal info or you will click into a virus or a trojan. I think you are OK to read the mail, but never reply to it. I always forward them to spoof@ebay (or Paypal).com. They will almost immediately email you back if it is a scam or not. Once I forwarded one to them and they replied that it was an actual eBay correspndence, so I went back and answered it. Another thing to look for, if you get a message from eBay it will also show up in your messages, on your my eBay homepage. I got an email a few weeks ago saying that I hadn't paid for a particular item yet. Instead of replying to the link I copied the item number and checked it. It was an item I had never seen before. When I forwarded it to spoof@eBay.com I got the reply from them that it contained a virus and make sure I run my anti-virus software.

    Hope this helps.

  • By the way, the email saying I hadn't paid looked EXACTLY like a message from "ask seller (or buyer) a question". Something just didn't feel right about it so I forwarded it on, and am glad I did.

why is it a scam so fast?

the URL http://signin.ebay.com/ws2/eBayISAPI.dll?SignIn&ssPageName=h:h:sin:US is a legit subdomain ran by EBAY.

the from address can be faked, but the headers of the email tell all.

can you paste the email headers? who was it from, the email addy?

from what you showed me, there is not a single thing wrong.

going to the webpage, takes me to ebay's login site.

edited to add: oh yea, login to my.ebay.com and see if the same email is there also. if yes, it is legit.

also, the URL's in phishing emails are normally obfuscated, so when u look at them, they seem correct. when u click on them, they do not go to EBAY. problems with outlook express and etc... i forget the exact vunl.

so what is the catch? you need to respond to a fake email addy with your info? heh.
