PCGS ERROR.....Right grade.....Wrong coin!

What is wrong with this picture? I'm new to the boards and just won the auction.
Is this a good thing or bad thing? Should I try to submit for a reholder with the correct year?

There is no picture. Welcome to the boards!

  • PCGS considers this to be a mechanical error. They will re-holder it free of charge.

  • OH COOL! I look forward to sending it in.
  • Leave it in the 2002 holder. Many like finding those errors by PCGS.
  • Even if the price guide difference is $2200 for a 2002 and $3500 for a 2001?
I think it would be better to get it relabeled. I appreciate everyones help.

You should leave it. There are premiums for this kind of thing.

When the time to sell comes, people will know it is a 2001 in the wrong holder. Just as you did to the Ebay seller...
  • So you are saying it would be just as valuable as a properly labeled 2001 and possibly, more appealing, to a collector
because of an error on the label?
  • If the date's wrong, how do you know that the grade isn't as well?
Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery?

Simple! Since grading is subjective, a grade cannot be "right" or "wrong".

I would have it corrected. Should any problems arise, such as haze or spots, you do not know if PCGS will back their guarantee if you leave the holder uncorrected. I'm sure they would, but it's better to be certain.
