New Haven Coin Show To Celebrate first Year Anniversary

The New Haven Coin and Currency Show will be celebrating its first year anniversary the Sunday Dec.th at the Annex Club. The address is 554 Woodward Ave New Haven Ct. The show will run from 9-2. There will be santa there to give out special gifts to the kids. Please bring a camera to take a picture with Santa.We will also be raffling off a one ounce gold American Eagle. The tickets for this raffle will be $5.00 each or 6 for $25.00. We would like to thanks all of the dealers and customers who supported us this year. You need not be present to win the raffle. Okay, now I have to attend. Is the show this weekend the 4th or the usual second Sunday the 11th?

Unfortunately I might not be able to make this show. It would be great to meet you if I can make it though! CT isn't as bad as I make it out to be.

It is going to be held on Dec. 4th this month rather than Dec 11. then it will be held every second sunday

I wasn't the one that said I'd bring some, but here are the three best spots (in order of my preference):

1. Modern Apizza on State Street
2. Pepe's Apizza on Wooster Street
3. Sally's Apizza on Wooster Street

If you go, make sure you get there before 5 PM. Otherwise, a line forms at each place which is about a block long. The pizza is amazing, and it is one of the things I miss about living in New Haven (I can make a mint in my current town if I could just replicate the pizza in New Haven).

I've been to this show many times and have never bumped into any of you guys, that is that I know of. ( Except of course for Vinman and his partner. )

How can we rectify this?

I will be sharing a table with Connecticut Numismatic Investments
(Rich Muratori) for the 3rd time. If you see a bunch of gold, seated stuff and type coins, that's me....don't carry much else.

We ended up not going because my ride chickened out due to an inch of snow. I told him I would drive, but he didn't like that idea either. I never cancel plans due to a little snow, but I guess the people around here aren't as well prepared.

There's still an inch of snow on the ground but the roads were clear as of 9AM. We should have gone, but I didn't press the issue. What a letdown...

The show was hampered by the weather and retail was pretty weak. More dealers than public. But business was still being done. I sold 5 gold coins to a gold dealer including a tougher
1911-s $5 half eagle in an old PCGS MS63 holder. But got a nice MS64 $10 Indian common date for $1900. Bid on these is stupid. I'll pay 5 to 8% over CDN for PCGS 64's basically sight unseen stuff, more seen. The stuff is hard to find priced right. Sold a couple of MS64 $20 Libs and a crusty 1852 AU50 no motto $5. Tried to pry loose an 1832 $10 Indian in P64 for $1925 but no dice. Actually, when I came back, the seller wanted another $25 more than the first time we talked. And that happens if you dally.

Nick Chabot and I talked with SeanQ. That was interesting seeing Sean's clipped penny cent. It was meant for Coppercoins. Nice set.
Thanks for the lesson is identifying phony clips Sean. Nick later bought a PF65 seated half from me. A pretty cameo with nice album toning. I wish he bought the darker and less attractive PCGS coin I had that was less money. Sometimes the Kool-aid is not as a tasty.
Nick had a MS65 that I loved the look of...turned out I used to own it! Small world.

Modern Dollar Nut and I had a great talk on his Susies and Ikes.
I spent more time on those 2 series today than I had in my life. Learned a lot. Rob is a good egg. Hope he changes his handle to
Doctor Ike or Susie Q or something like that. He is an up and coming force in these series. Good for him. We also talked gold and the economy which are fav topics of mine. Now I know something about type 1/2 1971-s Ikes as well as going thru his AU58 to MS68 SBA and IKE grading sets. Most educational.

Guy from GD Magazine (sorry forgot your handle already) stopped by again and we talked on many subjects (economy, gold, buffs, coin conservation, etc.) It was a fun...much like our talk back in the spring at my first time at this show.

The ladies from Coin Superstore and Nocerino worked up a nice banquet at the end of the show to celebrate another good year.
That was great and totally unexpected. I didn't bring lunch and this made it easy. I loved the cake!

A few empty tables but it gave all of us time to mingle, talk, and not be so weighed down with constant coin dealings. Spent some time looking at Ellesmere's coins as this was his 2nd show. It's good to bring a major retail dealer in with a national presence. They had a neat MS64 1901 $20 with humongous flash and MS65 arrows dime I liked....just didn't pull the trigger today. Sales were down overall from most I talked to... the weather again. One guy wanted to trade his pair of slightly better date MS61/2 saints for one of my MS65 commons. I got a bit confused and gave him a much better deal than I should have...to the effect that I probably lost $25-50 in the trade. It happens. One of the reasons why I like to keep deals simple. Maybe working on 4 hours sleep thanks to yesterday's forum hysertia had an effect!

Wish more of you had beat the snow to make the snow. We'll see you next time if possible. Albany was also going down today so some minor conflicts there. I doubt anyone from CT drove north just to walk the floor. The highways were clear for the ride home.

Next week Auburn, MA. last show ever at current location. parting is such sweet sorry after 30 years or more. But I don't think there will be a party staged.

I just got back a little while ago from the show. I am real tired. Overall, the show was pretty solid. I sold a few real nice pieces to a few collectors and then wholesaled a few other coins to a few other dealers. I picked up a great Proof Seated Half from roadrunner! The coin is very PQ+! I also got to meet some of the few other board members that were in attendance. I met with Guy (forgot handle), roadrunner, seanq, moderndollarnut, and I think one more (sorry I forgot). Overall I had a pretty good show and a couple nice NEWPs. I will post my official show report online in a little while! Thanks again alex.
