I guess PCGS would send that back in a BB.

Even I, the Holey of Holeys, weep when I see one of those.

What a waste, but do you think they slice it in half to put the guts in, or slice it in 3rds and remove the middle section?

Didn't Heritage have something similar (gold coin watch) up for auction in the last year?

Buyer and seller of vintage coin boards!

It's hollowed out (after being cut in half on the edge).

IF GENUINE it is a nice watch, if you like coin jewelry (which I don't).

Most definitely genuine and I'm surprised that more of you aren't familiar with them. Not an uncommon watch.

I would hope so, but Asian fake watches are a major industry. For example, there are more fake Rolexes in the world than genuine ones.

  • At least they didnt destroy a better date coin. How many people would weep if that was an 1870cc they happened to pick as a host coin?

Ahhh but is it authentic, that is the question.

  • Trust me, the makers of a four to five figure (high retail) watch know the difference between a common date and a rare date.

I'm as sad as anyone about the coin - I once turned down a gold double eagle money clip at melt because I just don't like coins to be used that way.

On the one occassion I bought a watch on eBay (a Rolex - risky I know) I had it authenticated immediately at a Rolex-authorized local jeweler. I was lucky, but there is a degree of risk.
