Boy, there are a lot of gold coins for sale on eBay lately

I was looking at eBay with my Dad and I asked him to look at gold coins for fun. I was really surprised how many certified gold coins and like modern commemoratives and stuff was on eBay when we looked. If so many people are selling doesn't that mean they think they are going to get the best price now. I mean if gold is going to go up why sell now? But if so many people are selling doesn't that mean it's not a good time to buy because the price of gold is so high. image

Folks are interested in selling now because they bought before this latest runup in prices, so they stand to make a profit.

And there's a major gift-giving holiday coming up in a few weeks, so some people may need the extra cash.
    When in doubt, don't.

    Yes there are ......but......

most are common circs, or lower grade $20's Saints and LIbs.
Fair amount of 62-64 $20 Saints and $20 LIbs.

You don't see any better gold like MS64 and 65 $10 Libs or Indians.
There aren't even that many $20 Saints in 65/66 as there were a year ago when gold was much lower. The better stuff stops right around MS63 grade.

The better gold is being hoarded right now in anticipation of higher prices. I'm doing the same thing.

I agree with your reasoning, Samuel, but there are gamblers who will always take their chances, and there are others who have reason (right or not) to believe gold isn't done yet.

If you have a lot of gold, you might be taking some chips off the table at every up-tick in price.

That's what the smart money would do -- sell at various price points on the way up.

If you don't and try to time the high to exit, you will get burned!

It is much better to be selling on the way up than selling on the way down.

just add PCGS, ANACS, or NGC to your search criteria, and all of a sudden there is NOT so many gold coins on ebay.

feel free to buy a fake, a raw piece of crap with bad pics, or something like that though!

    ;-)

edited to add: and who exactly sees MS66 gold on ebay?? Legend sells it. You must be looking at NTC slabs. image
