December 11th is the 1 year anniversary of the WI Extra Leaf Quarters.

I'll post some pics to honor the find by Bob Ford, here in Tucson.

Here is Bob Ford:
On a sad note, although Bob did quite well with these quarters, he had a rough year as he lost his wife a few months ago.
It has become highly improbable any more of these will hit the market. While there should
still be several million coins in FED or mint warehouses, the simple fact is that varieties are
normally released at a single or very few points over a very brief time window.
So, now, a year later the market has turned away from as local supply to a more national distribution.
As for the Red Book, they have sworn me to keep any plans on listing it a secret.
<< <i>In the past few weeks I was inundated with buy offers from a few dealers, and have since sold out of all my sets. I sold my remaining ones for close to retail to these dealers! I think there was some Christmas stocking up is going on. I still have a few Discovery sets, and they are moving out steadilly. They'd be gone by now, but I don't advertise them. I think they would have sold out for Christmas if I had.

This was the primary thing that held back the '82-nmm dime. There were huge hoards
of these and the coins got very little distribution. It took years to mostly distribute
these coins.
These quarters should do much better for many reasons.

As you'll recall, prominent error "experts" have pronounced them die gouges.

I dont believe that for a second. What are the odds for them both to be in that same place going in different directions. They actually DO look like leaves.

They were also made at the same time and probably on the same press. Since they've been
found together it's also likely that both dies were retired at the same time.
The high leaf variety does not pass through any of the features of the coin indicating to me that it was purposely placed.
Additionally. both varieties are distinct unlike the speared bison die gouge which requires light at a specific angle to see.
I'm thinking mole!
The name is LEE!
I think it was intentional. Die gouges? Yes! But intentional ones!
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
BTW- VERY nice pics Rick! Thanks for sharing them with us. They're the best I've seen yet.

I am sure the mint loves all the extra sales it gets every time an error gets media attention

That is really sad to hear.
It is hard to believe that is has been a year already and that not many more have been discovered since those few rolls by San Antonio, TX last spring. I still think this is sooooooo

Well, here's a few examples of where the Mint was able to learn and reinforce their learning about using varieties to help promote and sell their products. Every once in a while we can expect to be thrown a bone to renew our interest.
Oh, and I forgot the big promotional tool, reduced mintages. Nothing like a good reduced mintage to whip up the feeding frenzy.
