Modern commemorative - when are they voted, produced, sold, & delivered typically?

  To my knowledge, there is no timeframe for the authroizing legislation. By 1999, congress had passed and clinton had signed the legislation for the leif ericsson (2000) through lewis and Clark (2004) coins. By contast, this year's USMC and Marshall commems weren't authorized till aug 6 of last year.

  Many years gold commems aren't issued. As near as I can tell, the decision is random. First flight and 84 olympic were the only gold eagles to date.

  No there was a NASA/jpl bill. It passed in the house and is stuck in comittee in the senate. best way I know to keep abreast is to google the subject to get the house or senate bill number, then use http://thomas.loc.gov to track it.

The coins will be released in 2008 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of NASA and JPL. Profits from the sale of the coins will benefit the NASA Family Assistance Fund, a nonprofit financial assistance program for families of deceased NASA personnel. "
  
  I also forgot about the Franklin commem-
  in 2006 there will be 2 $1 Franklin commems issued for the tercentenery of his birth- one with his image as a young man, one with his image as an old man. Reverses will have"an image related to Ben Franklin's role as a patriot and statesman", and "an image related to ...(BF's) role in developing early coins and currency of the new country". Mintage limit is 250k for each.

  There is a link to the main page on the www.USMINT.gov website (click Pressroom, then legislation) where you can find out what is coming up. I think there is a commemorative Ben Franklin dollar set coming out in 2006, too. I hope it generates a little excitement for the old Franklin half, too.

  Coin World does a pretty good job of following the commem bills as they pass through Congress and will have a story when they're approved.
