question about 2005 half dollars

just got my 2005 halves from the mint today.
i look at the end coins of the 20 rolls i bought, and
2 rolls appear to be dmpl and 1 has a slight cameo look to it. not enough frost for me though.
my question is why doesnt the pcgs have grades in a pl or dmpl in the price catalog for the un coins? they only list dmpl and dc for the proof sets.

i tried to upload pics but file size is to big.

Are you saying your business strike 2005 Halves from rolls have Cameo finishes? Did they start doing Satin finishes on rolled coins too?

I suspect you mean they list DMPL on Morgan Dollars, not proof sets. DCAM would apply to proofs.

They don't list prices becuase they don't grade circulation strike Kennedy's with DMPL or Cameo (except SMS.... sort of like proof).

A picture would let some experts give their opinion on the DMPL and Cameo look.

  • right thats what i mean. the fields of the coins are very much like black water like a morgan in dmpl. and one roll has some frost on the head just enough to mabey be a cameo coin. i susspect a clean die and good polish was the factor.

I'd like to see this as well.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

The 2005 half's were not released for circulation. Fewer numbers mean higher quality coins. And as you mentioned new dies can give a slight cameo effect. If they were circulation coins it probably would not of lasted threw the bagging process.
Just as info the business strike quarters that have been certified by PCGS in the higher grades are bringing more money than the Satin Finish coins from the mint sets.
If you have these certified by PCGS I would be very interested in them in MS67 or higher.

Most PL clad is quite scarce. Most dates do exist though and finding attractive examples is especially
tough because the PL surfaces seem to highlight every little flaw.

    Heh!
  • I've got one of the 05 SMS sets and the dime has a slight prooflike appearance on the reverse.
  • wow thanks for posting the pics i made a few more to send you thanks.
does anyone know what this smuge is in the lower right corner of the picture?
i have noticed this on many of my new un quarters as well as this 2005 kennedy roll.
it looks like glue to me not a thumb print.
i also noticed the same thing on the new nickle coins buffalo and ocean in view.
    what could it be?
