Aside from the fact this coin is sitting on his hand...AT or NT. Looks AT but I cant understand why someone would kill such a clean coin.

It looks AT to me too. Whether this coin is in fact AT or not, you'd be amazed at how many perfectly nice coins are ruined, either by idiots or greedy coin doctors. That said, often coins that look "clean", look that way because flaws have been covered up by artificial toning, etc.

Just curious, what gives it the look that it might be AT? I know it probably comes from your guys experience looking at a lot of these, but from the picture I wouldn't have the slightest clue whether it was or not.

It just does'nt have "the look" it should to make it into a top tier slab. It's hard to explain but easy to see.

Jayboxx, in reply to your question, the obverse color looks unnatural/"wrong" to me, especially the blue-green at and to the right of the date area.

It has the tone of silver coins I've left on the stove over the pilot light as a tone test. Still a great looking coin.

ask me, a coin that tones legit, over time and a coin
that is toned in minutes, are the same thing.

sure, different chemical reactions take place, but eh? in the
    end your coin is toned.

i say NT and market acceptable. will it slab? who knows, depends
on what they think legit toning is.
  • Here are two that I inadvertantly left laying on my desk, buried under envelopes and papers for about 8 months.

While niether were purposely toned,I doubt seriously if either would slab because of the way they look.
