New Purchase: 1878-S NGC MS-64 PL Morgan Dollar (Really Sweet!!) -- I Invite Your Comments...

StuartStuart Posts: 9,831 ✭✭✭✭✭
Here's a new 1878-S PCGS MS-64 PL that I purchased tonight which looks really sweet, in one of those old "Fat" NGC holders.

And to make it even better, I was able to apply one of those new $15 Off E-Bay discount coupons to reduce the purchase price... image

What do you think of these original seller's auction photos of her??

MorganNut2: I have not yet received the coin, but will update the thread with mirror depth info, after I've had a chance to carefully examine it.

Nice coin, but you scared me for an instant. My mind has been on Seated Liberty Half dollars lately and when you posted an 1878-S in MS-64PL, I thought I was going to see a $100,000 coin. In silver dollars, it is not too rare, but in half dollars, that is THE KEY to the series.

    Congratuations!

Love that look (as you may know). Very nice. Please reimage it so we may see the mirrors and rim toning in better lighting...

Sure looks like a chance at DMPL Stuart, nice pick-up as 78-s's are not known for strong contrast.

Abablep: I will take some digital images of this pretty lady, after I receive her in the mail, and will post them as a follow-up update to this thread. image

Chris: I agree with you that 1878-S's are surprisingly tough in DMPL, for what is a relatively common date Morgan even in MS-64 and MS-65 condition.
