Do you prefer proof or mint state biz strike?

For a given grade (say PF/MS69), and independantly of the price and rarity, what is most pleasing to you, proof or business strikes? I don't really like the mirror finish of proof coins myself...

I'm the exact opposite, then. MS is nice but I like the flash of a proof. If there's some Cameo action, so much the better.

It's a pretty equal split for me but for anything post 1969 I like proofs and pre-1969 I like MS.

Morgan dollar mint state biz strikes, in DMPL with frost so thick on Liberty's face it looks like if you licked it, your tongue would stick to it.

MS69's don't exist past the modern issues. So, the question is how do you like your moderns?

I would have to go with MS, but it is a close call.

Proof.....MS dull but I collect both. Nothing like the real perfect coin IMO that the mint actually takes the time to slow down and create it right.

For some reason, I've always thought of proofs as "cheating".

Quality business strikes are a fluke. Accidently given a strong strike and with quality surfaces. They survive by chance, or hard work by someone pulling them from circulation.

Proofs were made to be "perfect", bought because they were pretty, and naturally saved by their owners. That's cheating!

Gimme a nice business strike luster.

I think Proofs are much more beautiful. And remember, it was only the proofs that were specially struck for collectors and sold at a premium, in the late 19th and early 20th century. Selling Uncirculated coins for a premium didn't start until the first mint set in 1947, a year in which no Proofs were made. The Mint didn't sell both proof and mint sets in the same year, until sometime after 1950- I can't remember which year and am too lazy to look it up.
