Also, move the light source further away from the coin.
D70 Manual Online (PDF)
1) Purchase Thom Hogan's Complete Guide to the NIkon D70 & D70s -- it was the manual your camera should have come with.
2) White balance will be fixed if you get a grey card and use custom white balance. That will solve your color problems.
3) Shoot RAW and download/buy Nikon Capture. Your photos will thank you.
4) Read about exposure -- your photo is overexposed.
Hope this helps...Mike
Take the pic in raw and adjust white balance after the fact. Don't worry about bulb types, it won't matter with raw and white balance adjustments. I find that using a f/7 gives me good results, too. I usually shoot at 55mm from about 10 inches away.
Mike,
Don't worry, at least you're ahead of me. I have the d70s and just ordered my lens for taking pics of my Lincolns. I have tried to gather as much information about imaging coins as I could. It still is a mysterious process to me and I haven't even taken a pic! Some folks guard the information like a corporate secret. I had one dealer tell me that he would not share the info about his pics because he considered it an advantage over his competitors. I can't blame him! These boards are an excellent resource. mgoodm3 and Shylock take great pics and can be very helpful. Best of luck. I will be posting my first attempts in the next couple days.
