Here is a true wonder coin! This is tied for the finest graded and is undoubtedly the finest example in terms of sheer beauty! The coin
has vivid magenta and lavender toning on both sides and is essentially flawless. As a pattern, this issue is highly coveted as a transitional
piece being struck in bronze from the regular dies. These were struck to motivate Treasury Secretary Salmon P. Chase into action on the coinage bill which would eliminate the copper-nickel in the cent, authorize a Two-Cent piece and stop the issuance of private Civil War tokens. It worked.
