Any Rumors what PCGS might have up their sleeves?

braddickbraddick Posts: 24,880 ✭✭✭✭✭
What with ANACS coming out aggressively with a new upgraded, larger holder and possibly their very own Registry (allowing both NGC and PCGS coins within it??), and with NGC coming out with a newer, better (read: clearer) quality holder and also cleaning up and making their Registry more user friendly (allowing customized Registries) what, if anything, does PCGS plan on doing that's new and inovated?

Any speculations? Rumors? Or, as the other Services answer the call of Collectors, will PCGS relax and take a "wait and see" attitude?

I thought they already were intended to be used as cupholders? You means the St Gaudens Double Eagle slab that I stick my whiskey glass on each night isn't suppose to be used for that?!?!

We're talking cupholders with advanced anti-spill features.

I've splashed on it many times, the raised edge of the slab keeps it from getting on my desk already. It's quite an effective drink holder.

why would the industry leader change what's already working well for them?? if they perceive that some market share is slipping away they might make a change, but absent that, i see nothing coming just to keep pace.

keep in mind, though, that a leader should lead and not follow; that seems not to apply in the coingrading arena.

i think a better thread topic might be What does PCGS not have up their sleeves to increase revenue??

i'll start----they most certainly are not about to change the overall holder's appearance, past rearranging what the insert says.
  • I hear they are going back to the green labels to make every coin look undergraded. Instant extra revenue. Cha-ching!! And they should put all kennedy proofs in pink label rattlers. image

The point would be to stay in the lead without losing market first. Good companies will act not react.

It's the others that reacted to PCGS's moves...Coinfacts, CCE, etc.

With their moves the others are just trying to keep up, albeit hoping to catch up.

TPG's move very slowly so even though rumors might abound and press releases put out, execution is the name of the game boys and girls.

And in this, the devil is in the details.

How about an open insert in the back of their holder so you can put your own grade in??????

Actually, given the increased number of registery sets they have recently openned, I think more will come. Like maybe a whole darn Lincoln set with Proofs, varieties and et all to date!

Who would want to put their coin in a slab like that? Who would want to buy a coin in a slab like that?

    They already announced it...

They've started recognizing & attributing VAMs. image

Based on this change, they got $500 of my money last week just in attribution & reholder fees, with more to come. This is money that would never have been seen on their balance sheet, and I'm just a wannabe. When they start recognizing more varieties, they'll simply make more money.

Word on the street is that they're increasing the time that they look at a coin from 6 seconds to 7.
  • leothelyonleothelyon Posts: 8,492 ✭✭✭✭✭
Perhaps adding a couple more seconds on their grading services would be welcomed! Did I hear that recently? No, but rumers need to start somewhere! image

    I got another one! image

Maybe they're thinking about using the names of the Jack family to start a new expressive grading system. You know, the son of Awe and Noe! The best coin would grade Awe **** and the worst would grade POS! image

I don't think they can do that as long at NGC doesn't offer a public tag verification service like PCGS does.

I'm lobbying David Hall to offer larger sized slabs to accomodate wider bases on Beer glasses with their Spillguard Technology (Raised Slab Edges) still being effective. Right now their Spillguard Technology is really only effective when used with Shot Glasses.

    Case in point:
