Were there any major/significant coin dealers in New Haven, CT in the 1800's or 1900's?
I grew up in New Haven, CT, and I like to read about its history (it has a lot of it!). I remember reading in the Abe Kosoff, Dean of Numismatics book that there used to be a pretty prominent coin dealer in New Haven in the early to mid 1900's, but I can't remember that dealer's name (and I don't have the book in front of me right now). Does anyone know who this is? Also, were there any major dealers in New Haven in the 1800's? Did any significant auctions take place in that city? I think it would be neat if I could find out more about the dealers and their businesses.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
In the late 40's and early 50's he called the ANA leadership to task and was improperly expelled. Years later, the ANA righted this injustice.
I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.
