Ike variety and responsibility

First I would like to say I have bought and sold to this e-bay seller and have been entirely happy in every way.
I have no question as to their honesty at all. That being said I bid on this Ike variety. link
Now I receive an e-mail from another e-bayer saying the variety is not what it is stated to be. I questioned the
seller and he said he has not verified the variety himself but the person he purchased it from says it is and that person is published in this area.(no name was used). There is also no stated return policy for this auction and none was extended when I contacted the seller as the high bidder.

My question is first can anyone verify from the auction pictures this is the variety listed in Cherrypickers' ? Second would it be improper for me to withdraw my bid now with 4 hours left in the auction? Basically shame on me for not making sure before I bid.

When I e-mailed the seller I was hopping he would say it absolutely was the variety.
Thanks Joe

I am not sure on the variety, but sure wouldn't bid so much on SEGS' word without verification.

It sure looks like the pic in the Cherrypickers book.
    I think it's the real deal.image

    << <i>1971-S Ike Dollar Doubled Die FS-015.8 and DDO#6 Prf-65! >>

It does look like FS-015.8 but DDO #6, I believe is an unc coin, not a proof. It may be DDO #22.

  • Yes. The e-mail said the coin pictured was DDO-006/ WDDO-022 They stated that 15.8 is CONECA DDO-003/ WDDO-008.
I agree the auction pic looks like the one in Cherrypickers'. 15.8 in Cherrypickers' is listed as a proof.

I have never retracted a bid before but I did rely on facts stated in auction and Cherrypickers'.

Get a return policy or DON'T BID and pay witha credit card!!!

That said, the coin certainly looks doubled and is a proof. Not sure of the variety.

Also sounds a bit high for such a coin, but it is neat doubling. I've never been able to get a big premium for Ike erros like this, but looks like someone else is.

    Good Luck with the decision.

Maybe the person who e-mailed you want's to get it at a good price! It would be interesting to see if they did or do bid..... I suspect that would be a violation of e-bay terms.

  • That thought crossed my mind as well. Looking up the variety on the coneca website what the e-mailer said was true. fs-15.8 is DDO-3 not DDO-6. I am going to retract my bid and just sent them an e-mail explaining why. Thanks.
  • I tried to retract my bid and apperantly you can not do this with less then 12 hours left so I asked
Sullivan Numismatics to cancel the bid. They said no, I may return it if it was not properly described.
So I will pay thru PayPal with a credit card so I have 2 places to dispute the charge if need be.

Sounds like a seller to avoid. Seems to me they would be more accomodating, seeing you've bought from them in the past.

I've had good dealing with them in the past,...but don't know if I would
"go out on a limb" that far for a DDO Proof Ike.image
