Coinstar fool's gold :(

Did my usual crane and scan at the coinstar coin return on the way out of the supermarket just now. Just about had a heart attack: A handfull of coins just sitting there with nobody around.

21 coins, all Lincolns. Nothing interesting in the entire bunch image

Oh well, it was exciting thinking about a half-roll of wheats while it lasted...

  • I always want to check the Coinstar machines, but I always chicken out. Any tips for looking cool checking the coin return?

Remember, the folks who man the registers are nearly minimum wage employees and really don't care. I just send me little boy (eight years old) to check the "Silver filter" for any coins. It is so cool when he brings back a silver dime or two.

Not a chance. I just reach down and do a quick scoop-check. I don't even try to look cool.
  • Yeah I usually just saunter over to the machine and look really interested, like I've never seen anything like it before. Then I glance down at the part that all the "reject" coins fall into, and see if there's anything there.

    No luck yet image

I just came back from the grocery store. I checked the coinstar and all I found was a paper lincoln cent on top of the feeder thingy. It looked like a real cent, but it was a lifesize 2 sided copper color printed paper lincoln cent dated 1989. I brought it home of course. image .
