You've got $100 to spend on ebay...

I've got one of those $15 off a $100 ebay purchase coupons that's butning a hole in my pocket...

What would be a good value buy (not a specific auction necessarily)?

My general tastes run towards early Commems and CC Morgans so those are probably out...

  • Find yourself a better date Gem Franklin half. If you are buying it for possible resell down the road, pick a PCGS certified coin. If you are buying it for your personal collection, pick an NGC certified coin.
It's my opinion that NGC is tougher on Franklins and you can get them for a tad less then the PCGS versions.
  • A nice early lincoln in say MS63-65RD. There is some great detail on the early ones.
  • I just picked up a 90-CC Morgan PCGS 12 for $100, on Ebay. Think that it will be a bargain soon.

The nicest toned coin I could.
  • If you like classic commems and CC Morgans, surely you can find something in one of those categories. Might not be uncirculated, but there are many interesting coins in the $100 to $130 range. You don't have to hit $100 on the nose. Like most people, you are probably saving the 10% coupon for something closer to $250.

    Probably something other than coins
  • Here's a question -- for those of you selling items in the ~$100 range on E-Bay, have you seen an increase in sales prices these past few weeks as people factor in the effect of their coupons? In other words, are you finding items that should normally sell for $110 have been selling for $120-$125 as people figure they're getting a deal using the $15 off coupon?
  • As I've been surfing ebay, I 've certainly been running into auctions for $99.99 or the like which won't qualify for the $15 off....
  • I was watching an auction that I was willing to go as high as $120 on (normally I wouldn't go above $110 but figured as long as I'm getting $15 off, why not). Unfortunately, it went for $135. image
