Opinions needed on this Bust quarter...edited to add: what do you think it would grade at ANACS?

image

I'm considering buying this coin, and was wondering what your opinions were as to the toning on the piece. Is it natural?
The seller graded it VF,and it looks VF to me.What do you think?

Thanks!image

How goes it.....Looks like a fine to me with the large zero, Toning looks original and could be from an album or envelope......Rick

Oh, as 21 walker says it's at best a fine.

a decent F12 coin tops. I don't think it is close to VF20

well I see that it is rather flat on the face, didn't think it would be only a F-12.Maybe a F-18 if they still had that.image
    Thanks for the help guys!image

Bust quarters are difficult...I think the coin is VF20...they are notoriously weakly struck. Color is ok I would guess. Price is everything on these...what is it going to cost you?

Looks like an original retoning. But I would be more inclined to grade F-15 at best.

Browning 3 is the variety, although you didn't ask.

I'd grade that coin vg, probably vg/10.

Most likely cleaned at one time and retoned......slabbable.

No way vf and I'd have a hard time with a Fine grade.

It's scarce and is a better variety, Tubbs.
The die crack though the stars on the left and the large 0 in the date are the diagnostics for the 1820 Browning 3.
Browning 5 is the tough one for this year though.

That ain't all "strike" there is a lot of wear on this coin. I'd call it f-12 (and that's being nice) and secondary toning.

    When in doubt, don't.

Fine... with retoning. Reverse does seem to be a little better.

ST nailed it with this one. Barely a Fine at 12. There's more wear than strike issue with this one. A busty with no strike problems looking like that would get a VG10 from me every day of the week. All that being said, it's a cool coin.

It appears to have about the same detail as yours.

I'm sure that the grades would all have been in the range of choice VF to XF if this was really the case.image

Pretty nice coin for all the wear it has. ANACS might go F-12 on a lucky day.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.
