Were 55/55 Lincolns available in rolls ?

Hello,
I remember reading somewhere that 1955 doubled die Lincolns were not found in bank wrapped rolls or roll quantities. Is this true ?
Thanks for the input.

I thought most of them were found as loose cents placed in cigarette packs that were bought from machines (cigs were 23 cents and the cents would be change for a quarter).

That said, I guess the cents had to come from somewhere, so they probably were in rolls at one time.

I read a story once, which may be apocryphal, I just wish I could remember the source. If anyone else has heard this one, please remind me where you read it:

Anyway, the story was about a collector's father, who every week would bring a roll of cents with him to his weekly bowling league. He purportedly broke open the roll to pay for a couple of sodas and noticed that all of the letters on the front were doubled. Not thinking anything of it at the time, he proceeded to spend the entire roll. It was only much later when the variety was publicized that he realized what he had done.

It's my understanding that no bwr's were found with the 55/55's. I seem to remember that most 55/55's were found in an issue of readers' digest that had cents glued into them as a promo. That's throught to be the reason way there are so few red coins in higher grades.

My understanding was that they were mixed in the hopper with normal cents and the decision was made not to melt them since it would be too laborious to separate them. Hence, if any rolls of 1955 DDO cents existed, they were put together rolls.
