I ordered a few of this set but was very cautious because I expected a total glut after the modest success of last years set. Anyone got a handle on mintages for last years set and this 2005 set?
Wait till the last shipment goes out next week from the Mint. Ebay will be flooded with them and prices will fall. The '05 mintage is in excess of 1 mill which is alot of sets. Still a good long term hold imho.
I'm really supprised the Unc. set is only around 1 Million sold and the regular Mint set is over 2 Million. I would have thought they sold many more Unc. set. I mean the price is better, plus Satin, what's not to like. I would have bought a few more if I knew the mintage was that low.
I purchased 10 sets way back when they came out. They are beautiful. I am thinking I received some of the first minted...and as you know the more ware to the dies the less satiny they become...I am sure there are those sets out there that are not so pleasant...JMO
<< <i>is it just me, or does 2.2 million Clad proof sets seem high? >>
Not really, it seems about average to me.
1999 clad set 2.5 million 2000 clad set 3.1 million 2001 clad set 2.3 million 2002 cad set 2.3 million
I don't have figure on hand for the 2003 or 2004 sets But as you can see 2.2 million sets may actually be a bit on the low side, lower than any of the other sets I listed.

In a way my sets were so prefect it took the fun out of the search. Did you get weak sets or they just didn't strike your fancy?
