Opinions on this 1880 gold $ from TT

I was interested in this 1880 gold $ PCGS AU50 as a type coin. Even though they are not rare considering a low mintage of less than 2000, I still thought it would be neat having one with that low a mintage. I thought it looked nice but selling at $450 + juice, I thought it went a bit on the xpensive side. What do you think of the price and looks?

Seems pricy for a generic type 1 in AU50. Nice rotated die, but $200+ premium? Must be a variety.

Its a type 3 and with a mintage less than 2000 its a better date.

It's a very low grade for that coin. Analogous to some other type coins in G4. I was able to buy a stunning PL one last year in MS64 for only a little more than twice that. I agree it's a cool coin to have as your type coin; there's something very sexy about the tiny mintage, even if every last one of them is still accounted for. I'd hold out for one in mint state.

I like the look of it. I prefer T1's myself, but that one looked nice. I am not sure about the price, though.

Too low a grade for a common gold type. That coin should bring $200.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.

With a mintage of less than 2000, its definately not a common coin. Its a better date and it deserves a premium.

A $200-$225 coin tops, and pretty rough for the grade. You can do a lot better for that money or a little more.

So what you may be intimating is that this coin/date may be a sleeper. Darn low mintage. I think I have a plan...
