The Nikon D50 + raw = awesome pics!

This is the best I've ever imaged this coin. It's very bright and lustrous and in a NGC slab:

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

I've been preaching RAW for Nikon here for a while. Glad to hear you're seeing better results.

    Did you use Capture?....Mike

Nah. I have Photoshop CS2 so I didn't want to pay extra for capture. I knew that raw would be better but I didn't realize the extent of manipulations you can do with the raw before final import.

66*, it didn't make FS but it would be a 5FS under the current NGC standards.

Does the CS2 plug in give you dynamic lighting control? This is the key feature in Capture that really makes a difference in the quality of coin photos. Take care...Mike

  • It looks like it's worthy of the * designation image

Do yourself a favor and download a trial version of Capture (I think they still offer a free trial), and play around with Dynamic Lighting Control. Once you do, I'll wager you a barber dime you buy it....Mike

Great photos and nice coin. Couple of questions. Is that a verticle line on the front just above the ear of Jefferson or just a mark on plastic or something? Are those nicks on the post next to the door on the reverse? Great clarity.

Yes and yes. There is a hit on the head that is very light and those are hits on the rev.
