I'm assuming you're talking about 1/1 with none higher...

I amazingly have 4 in my Mantle Master set, and I rank 15th overall. The #1 set has 5, #2 set has 2, and Marshall Fogel's #3 set has 3 (but his are incredible - 53 Topps PSA 10, 59 Home Run Derby PSA 8 & 64 A.L. Bombers PSA 10).

image This is my first post...but I think that this is an interesting question! I've never thought about it before...but I counted the "1/1" cards in three of my favorite Registry sets: In my 1949 Eureka set, I have 159...in my Alex Rodriguez Master Set, I have 212...and in my Barry bonds Master Set, I have 256. But I didn't take the time to count how many of them are both 1/1 AND "10's"...I guess that's really what we should be looking for. Thanks for bringing up a fun topic!

    Hey Woodman,

That Eureka set is out of this universe.......Needless to say i had never heard of the set........Thank you for spending the time to put in all the pictures and details. This set should be considered for best post-war vintage set (48-59)....and even a Hall-Of Fame set.

Jami, Thanks, sooo much, for the nice comments! I have seen others discussions, in this forum, relative to whether or not a collector should "show" his collection, post pictures, and/or post comments. Obviously, I think that it is MUCH more fun to "show" what cards you have, post as many pictures as possible (although sometimes I just get over-whelmed), and try to write something about each card (or each player). I started collecting the 1949 Eurekas because they had great color photos (taken in the 40's) of pioneers, like Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella, and Don Newcombe. I have found that there are very few real "taken in the ballpark" color photos of players in the 40's. It's fun looking at the uniforms...and seeing the how some of the players were, obviosly, "posed" for some of the "action shots". Again, thanks for the comments.

I know I have a bunch scattered through other (mainly player) sets, but 7 of the 9 cards in the R423 set I'm working on are 1/1's with none higher, and another is a 1/2 with none higher.

Uh Kevin, it has 16 10s, 14 of which (and none of the 9s) are 1/1.

I was actually shocked...not having thought of this before.
My 1964 Topps BB set has 36 1/1, 10's and 2 9's. I was shocked because this is over 1/3 of all the 1/1's.
WOW!! Thanks for getting the brain box working.

    54 PSA 10s that are 1/1
    21 PSA 9s that are 1/1

and a handful of others that either a) are less than PSA 9 but still 1/1 [like 1982 FBI Foods Disc], or b) aren't listed on the Registry yet

I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

Check out David Johnsons 1900 Cope's Golfers set under Misc Sports. He has 44 of the 50 card set as 1 of 1. The set is over 100 years old with 13 PSA 8s. It's difficult enough to unearth a handful of cards worthy of PSA 5. PSA 7s and 8s are unheard of. Now that's a set and some unbelievable 1 of 1s.

On my Payton Master set, I have 11 1/1's, five of which are PSA 10, but have 78 out of 98 as highest graded possible.

On Payton Basic, I and MOSH both have all 12 of the highest graded possible (but none of which are 1/1 obviously).

On the 1972 Kellogg's ATG set, I have all 15 in PSA 10, with one 1/1 and 12 of the 15 having 4 or less ever graded.

    On the 1970 Kellogg's BB, I have 3 1/1 PSA 10s (33 of 75 in PSA 10 overall) , and have 4 1/1 PSA 10s on the 1970 Kellogg's FB set (37 of 60 in PSA 10 overall).

Wow, lot's of 1/1 PSA 10's here, which I have none of.

For my 1959 Bell Rams set, I currently have 28 1/1's out of my 34 graded cards in this 40-card set. PSA 8 is the highest grade recieved so far by any 1959 Bell Brand Ram card. Out of the 13 PSA 8's in the current pop report, I have 9 of them.

I'm sure in time there will be higher graded cards and my number of 1/1's will decline as more people get their Bells graded. Right now there are only 55 total graded 1959 Bell Rams.

Come on people! Get those Bells graded! Let's put this set on the map.

    Jami,

Thanks for the tally - I had no idea!!!

To be honest, I have actually been losing most 1/1 PSA 10's to Larry Mayer on eBay lately. The way I figure it - there was a time when I had 37 different PSA 9 1/1's in my 72 set. And remembering the old Dorito's line? "Munch away, we'll make more!!!" And thats exactly how I feel about paying through the nose for 1/1's. I'd prefer to snag the 1/2 and save $25 - $50 a shot these days. If its a really tough 1/1, then I'll dig deeper.

Sure, not the attitude of champions... But, it allows me to buy more for the money...
