Collector's Universe Member 1" pin back buttons

I read in a thread a while back (had to be before the last PAN show) that many folks would enjoy having a pin or button that identified them as a CU forum member for wearing at shows. I don't know why, but it didn't occur to me until right this very second that I OWN A BUTTON PRESS. So this leaves me with two questions for everybody:

1) What should be on the buttons?

2) Will CU give me a hassle for putting their name on a button (if so this idea is dead to me already)?

Let's play it like this: If you have a great idea for the design of a CU forum member button post it to this thread. Describe it if that's all you can do, but post images if at all possible. Some of you folks are photoshop wizzards, so go nuts! Remember that we're talking about a 1" diameter and large images must be shrunk down (sacrificing quality), so simpler designs tend to work better. Kind of like minting in low relief.

If you are a CU employee and there is a problem with this idea, feel free to post and put the kill on it. I promise you won't even hurt my feelings.

Let it rip!

I would like to see something like this done. Something simple, small, yet effective is what we need. Something.. like this...

I was thinking along those lines as well. The simple image will translate well on to the button. However I was also thinking that not using the CU logo may be a good idea to stay out of trouble. I'm interested to hear what the administration has to say about that (if anything).

Good idea for most people Airplanenut, but a drag for some - like me. Bob Dobbs, my icon, is already on about a billion buttons. There are also many members here that share the same icon.

Just kidding, for cripes' sake. Never take me seriously after my bedtime.

On second thought, never take me seriously. At all.

Any other words like COLLECTORS, UNIVERSE or MEMBER can easily be added or even a blank space for members name, I'm thinking in gold above and below the CU.

The symbol of the message board could be used or even a coin right before any additional words.

FUN, 2004. The last show I attended.

The bronze pin was given to me by the Forum Empress Carol herself, I believe. It has a pinback on it. I wear it on the Holey Coin Vest.

The other name badge was a creation of one of our Darksiders- I'm ashamed to say I forget who it was. Perhaps rhound1977 or Spinaker2000. The picture of the British half-sovereign is the icon I was using at the time. Each of us had our icon picture on the name badges, as well as forum name and real-world first names.

Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.

As LordM showed in his pic, CU has already made up a pin for forum members. We just need to get CU to issue more.

I also still have both of those things. The name badge was the work of Rhound1977.

I like Lord M's show tag - handle, first name, and an icon. Ksteelheader wore one also that he made similar to that.
The official CU button is cool too but wouldn't stand out enough to make me recognize a forum member.

However, in Lord M's case I don't think anyone would have trouble recognizing him. Not only is his icon himslef but who else wheres a holey coin vest and hat? image

Tootawl and I are not difficult to recognize either. Just look up.

Scott, are you coming to Baltimore? If you are going to make custom buttons, I'd be up for one and I'd wear it.

Even if coin universe said OK to that, the University of Colorado wouldn't, since that's their copyrighted logo.

Why CU? Why not pcgs, or the word forum. Actually, Marty's coin is probably just right

I was unaware that CU actually issued buttons. Those are way out of my league. My buttons are your standard round mylar jobs. If we can get them to issue more of them I don't need to be part of this equation.

There is the valid point that they are small and would be hard to recognize. My buttons would be as well. I'm looking in to getting a 3 1/2" press, but to be honest I've always considered those big buttons to be a bit gaudy.

Xbob, it's highly unlikely that anyone will see me at a show outside of PA (maybe OH) for some time to come. I had an unfortunate accident with a foundation jack a few weeks ago that resulted in me breaking a floor joist in my kitchen. That boils down to zero money for coins or travel until I get my house square (literally). Someday I'll get to go to a big show like that. In the mean time it's just as well. I still have too much to learn.image

LordM's name badge looks like the best solution for the problem from where I sit. Leave it to those clever darksiders to steal my thunder!

Barndog, I like the circle of trust idead quite a bit, but I don't think I've earned membership yet. I'd be more comfortable promoting the circle of crust.

Edited to add: sorry about the double post. I'm not sure how that happened.

I like the Circle of Trust™ and the MadMarty icon. Something easy to identify, but not very nerdy.

I was also unaware that badges existed also I was unaware that CU were copyrighted letters.

Cool idea though, it was the thought that counts.

I'll be looking for the badges at the next coin show I can attend.
