Actually, more often than not, I have to clean those dug pieces with toothpaste or baking soda. This is a numismatic felony but justifiable in the case of stuff that's been in the ground for decades or centuries. (A necessary evil.)
This one retoned in my album over the space of a few years' time.
Light toothpaste job on this Oregon Trail- I tried Jeweluster but it didn't get the red clay stains off.
This one was cleaned with electrolysis rather than chemical means. Came out pretty nice. Retoned with some faint iridescent blues.
These ain't the best pics, but they're the only pics I have of coins I know were definitely cleaned, since I did the cleaning.
Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.
Anyone else have any to share?
