Need help on this Barber Half..

Here's a 1915 Barber Half that I recently acquired and I've noticed something odd on the reverse. I'm not quiet sure what or how it caused it but it looks like a piece of metal was growing out from the bottom of letter "N" in the word UNITED. Maybe it's a mint error.. I don't know.

Any clues..?

I don't think it is anything more exotic than slight damage to the coin. I have seen many coins with edges of the lettering crushed down like your 1915. It seems that if it were a die chip created upon the coin's first striking that it would be much more worn commensurate with the wear the coin has had over many years to bring it to a Fine grade.

Of course, it is hard to tell without a really good close-up in person, but I have never encountered any type of striking anomoly as seen on this half.

I wish I had bought a 10X loupe now.. that would definitely see what I need to see. The overall appearance doesn't detract at all, The letter N is in perfect shape as far as I can tell, no damage, no gouge or it doesn't look pressed down. And no I don't think it's a die chip either but again, the extra metal part is not at same elevation as the letter, it's only about one third in height of the letter more like.image

Looks like a tad bit of damage. Usually see it on F-VF examples.

Looks like a slight strike error of some sorts......

Nothing special about it and unless it is worse then the picture, would not prevent me from purchasing the coin.....
