weakly struck on both sides
By the way, the terms "die adjustment strike", "die trial", and "setup piece" are nothing more than wishful thinking. There is no way to determine the cause of weakness. A weak strike is a weak strike. While a few may be escapees from test runs, the vast majority are likely the result of spontaneous equipment malfunction. You can find multi-struck weak strikes and weak strikes in combination with all sorts of errors, such as indents and partial brockages. You can find multi-struck coins in which the first strike is weak and the second strong or the first strike strong and the second weak. I even have a triple-struck quarter with a strong-weak-strong sequence in which the second strike is exceedingly weak.
Use of the term "die trial" is often a cynical attempt to pry more money out of a gullible collector.
