The 1966 box is Postmarked 10/20/66,
and the 1967 is Postmarked 5/13/67.

From the U.S.Treasury website......The clad coins were struck with the 1965 date through July 31, 1966. All denominations of United States coins minted from August 1 through December 31, 1966 carried the 1966 date.

Getting as close as possible to that date might increase a cameo hunter's odds, but I expect there were other occasions during production when both dies were changed simultaneously. Just not many.

Wow, I hate to go against the grain here but you should NOT open the boxes..... you can always open them, however un-opening is just a smidge harder

... just my 2 cents

These have been sealed for almost 40 years, I think I'll keep them sealed for another 20 or so.

I don't collect modern coins except nicely toned Kennedy Halves for the kids, (have 21 so far)

I do like finding the 65-67 (SMS) unopened boxes the best of all.
Still looking for some 65's though

Wow!!!

Over the years (starting in 1972) I've looked at 10,000 of each date of the SMS's. I've watched
the population drop to a small fraction of the original mintage and the incidence of gems and cameos
drop even more. I don't believe I've ever seen an unopened box of '66 or '67's.

The later sets are seen less and less often in unopened boxes (and bags) as well. It used to be
about 10% of the sets on the wholesale market but now you can go for months without seeing
any from before 1989.

DHeath.......I appreciate the info on the timeline when these were struck. I didn't realize this, but I never claimed to be an expert with these SMS coins.

Cladking.......interesting insight. Granted they might not be as available as they once were, but when I saw these I thought it would be neat to have............so I bought em.

As my collecting habits have change numerous times (I like early type at the moment), I may decide to sell all these unopened boxes, but again, I will probably never open them. They're too cool the way they are
