I picked this 71-D Ike up for $2 this weekend...how'd I do?

It's got a nice luster to it. I'm pretty pleased especially for $2! Any help with what you think it may grade? image

Thanks in advance. image

Looks like a 66 to me.

Could go 64 or 65 at you know where right now! image

    Nice pickup for $2.

If there's no rub -- and I see none on the picture -- it's an easy 64. It's hard to make a 65 Ike, though, and nearly impossible to make a 66 these days.

You can't go wrong at that price and you'd have to look through several original rolls to
improve it. It's got a good shot at 65 but may go 64.

I can see your pics. Nice coin by the way. It looks like it has a shot at MS66! Good luck.

After reading some recent threads about grading moderns it doesn't sound to promising. image

Very hard to grade a scan but I would agree with what has been said. If it is as nice as it looks it could make MS66 but it does not take much to bring it down to MS64-65. There is a bit of roughness around the rim to the right so it would never go MS67 and all it will take is a couple of light marks and MS66 is out.

The 71D is the easiest of the clad Ike's to make MS66 and they go for $85-$160 depending on the day.

PCGS is always tough so GOOD LUCK!

At $2 it was a score no matter what. An average BU roll sells for $50-$60 ($2.50-$3.00 per coin) and most rolls are full of AU dogs with the average coin is MS63.

    Cool coin.

Is it just me, or is there typically a LOT more marking and scuffing on an MS-65 Morgan than on an MS-65 Ike? It seems to me that a common-date Morgan which had full luster and the amount of marks on a typical 65 Ike would have no trouble making 66.

I was thinking about it...as long as it's closer to 65 than "ish". image

If it's an RDV-006...I'd send it in, even it was more "ish" than 65!image

Can't go wrong for that price. It looks really clean and probably a 66 or thereabouts. One question. Why did you leave it in the 2x2? May even look better out of the holder or are you afraid to touch it?
