Guess the Grade -- Toned Lincoln Cent -- [grade revealed]
Here's this week's addition. Please guess the grade...Mike

----------The coin is a PCGS MS 66 RB--------------
For the record, I think it is overgraded. The coin in hand shows a bit more red than shows in the pics -- which were taken to maximize the toning. The reverse is virtually mark free, but there is a dark spot clearly visible in the left wheat. The obverse has obvious chatter visible in the lapel and other very small marks on the cheek, shoulder and date. There are also very tiny spots that the picture exaggerates below LIBERTY. The reverse is a 66+, the obverse a 64, IMHO.
Only one guessed correctly, TonedCoinTrader, then he recanted his guess.
Thanks for playing!

The fields are very clean, but the obverse has a weak strike and it looks like someone toook a screwdriver to Lincoln's lapel. I like the color though!

I agree.
edited to add: there are some very distracting big hits on Lincolns jacket.

It's in a PCGS holder though,so I think a grade of 65 is a bit to high!
Apropos of the coin posse/aka caca: "The longer he spoke of his honor, the tighter I held to my purse."
I absolutely

Minute carbon spotting under LIBERTY, slight rim nicks from 8 to 9 o'clock on the obverse, and the lapel damage would keep it from going 65 IMO

that is a big hit on the date/mm and was the first thing I saw....Overall, not too bad of a strike on the obv.
Hell, I don't need to exercise.....I get enough just pushing my luck.

Here are some larger photos to help (sorry dial-uppers):

MS 66 RB, The graders must have mistook the hits on lincoln's jacket and on the 5 as part of the design or were very forgiving.
The very nice smooth surfaces and Color must have bumped it.

You were right the first time.
Thanks for playing!
For the record, I think it is overgraded. I paid $35 on Teletrade for it.

As the one man who's seen it in person, where would you put the grade?
I'd say 65 RB on a good day. The obverse just has too many flaws, but what the heck do I know.
Maybe this is a case of eye appeal getting an extra boost in grade?!?
No matter the grade, I really like this little Lincoln. This coin is all about affordable eye appeal, and this one has it in spades to me...Mike
