Sac mule for sale on Ebay?

Weren't all the mules 2000-P? This one sure looks like a D not a P, though the seller says its a P. What do you think? [/IMG] Ebay pageimage

If that picture is any indication, looks like some major hairlines. Don't know if the mules were P only.

Edited to add: It sure looks like a quarter stacked on top of a Sac., cleverly photoshopped.

  • Well, he says its a P. With everything I have read, no D mule mint marks eve been found. The error itself was human error. Chances of the same error at both mints are probably a billion to one. If its a real D mule and not a photoshop, it would be really rare, but what do I know?

    fake, fake, fake.
  • Yeah I say fake too. Just trying to figure why he would try to sell off a fake besides the usual reason.
  • My bet is that it is one of those fakes where they have hollowed out a Sac, inserted a cut down quarter, and they have given it a copper plating. There appears to be a groove around the outside of the quarter. Especially at the bottom below DOLLAR.

Many novelty pieces were made by hollowing out a Sac$ and filing down a Quarter to fit inside. Then they are gold plated. These are offered often on eBay as novelty pieces for just a few dollars. This is clearly one of those pieces.

What's wrong with him not giving a refund if someone is not satisfied ???

Why hasn't he submitted it to a grading service then he wouldn't have to settle for a "modest" price ???

Duh, it's not a real mule!!!
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

100% man-made error. You can clearly see the "line" on the opbverse where the SAC was hollowed out and the Washie was made to fit.

Its a fake. Either he got duped or he is trying to dupe somebody. Its worth $9.99 I think that was the price of those novelty mules when they were available..

You can see flat spots and a wavy rim from the quarter being pressed into the sac.

If it were actually real I don't think that would matter much. image

He didn't get duped. He's running a scam. This line is the tell:

One of the real mules came from a postage vending machine at a post office. I'm sure he read that story and decided it might lend some credibility if he added it.

I wrote the seller suggesting he stop the sale and submit it for authentication. He just wrote me saying he got over 125 emails about it and is going to cancel the auction and submit it. We'll see what happens.

So I watched this auction. Seller never pulled it for authentication.

Sold for $1125.00 (25 bucks over his reserve). A zero feedback bidder put in the reserve in the last hour (hmmm?).

A 32 feedback buyer bought it. I hope for his sake it is genuine but I am strongly thingking a noob got chumped.

I made an updated thread and posted it. Sad to see that someone might have gotten robbed, literally.
