Wish I could afford this.

SMR is $2500 for a PSA 9. This one has 8 more days to run and has a long way to go to reach SMR. Will be interesting to watch though.

In regards to SMR, our experience is that most (including us) believe SMR to be generally low, especially on vintage football cards. We believe this is a super high end 9 (no slider) and priced it accordingly. Many of the 9's out there have very rough cut edges and questionable centering. This example does not. We are not opposed to retaining high end cards of this quality (as value increases over time with the growth in FB card collecting) rather than "dump" it so to speak.
We certainly appreciate there are differing opinions here, just wanted to be open and offer ours.
Thanks to all who have bid or offered any insight.

P.S. Adding new inventory almost daily with much more to come! Please stop by and browse around if you get a moment and email us with any questions or comments.
P.S.S. If you have any high end graded football to sell and feel SMR is too high, please contact us to sell your cards!
The Sayers 9 isn't exactly the hardest to find vintage 9 around...Remember that as the overall market WILL increase in value, the low pop/rare cards may not feel the increase if the population of the card rises.

31 DICK BUTKUS 2 16 27 73 82 9 60 24 2 4 0 304
38 GALE SAYERS 13 39 50 110 206 13 170 37 17 2 0 671
Although the card may be high end , the problem with SMR and trying to get a premium is above. The card is pretty easy in a 9 and compared to the butkus the pops are interestingly very different. I have talked about this before with other collectors and the # of cards in the set does not lead to short prints and there aren't any known short prints or double prints from these sets but for some reason some cards are much more difficult to find than others , vice versa. One would think that these 2 hall of famers would have similar pops or at least numbers of cards submitted but the sayers has twice as many cards for some reason. There are also 17 psa 9's and for a card in this price range , that is a pretty high pop. The other fact is that there are 170 psa 8's and for football cards , this is extremly high and many collectors will settle with one of those for 25% of the psa 9 price. Still a gorgeous card after all that babling!
Auction house prices have also been in the $1800 to $2100 range as there have been at least a half dozen to sell over the past year alone.
While the pop is higher I'm not sure it is "high" so to speak. Lots of vintage collectors to spread only a dozen and a half cards around for a HOF running back. There was certainly enough activity and emails for the auction to make me believe that. However, while a card like that is desirable it is not within everyone's price range. In any event, it was not positioned as a low pop card but as a very high end example of a PSA 9. I am willing to bet it is nicer than most I have seen on ebay, auction houses or web stores.
Thanks to all again for the open discussion!

What do you think kept this from being the first Sayers PSA 10? Are there any visual defects? Microscopic defects?
If there are no rough cut edges and it's dead centered, why no PSA 10??? Maybe a candidate to pop and re-submit if you are a gambling man...
Just wondering,
Jason
according to my values and my needs. Nothing holds dominion over me, I stand alone as the ruler of my life.
I really thought 10 on this one as I have submitted a ton of cards to PSA over the years with great success. I think the 9 came from just fractionally off centering top to bottom (and I mean fractional) and the top edge is not perfect like the sides and bottom but I have seen several 10's from the 50's and 60's with very rough cut edges, so I really have to assume centering. The back is crazy clean - no chipping, and the corners look solid to me.
I guess I could re-submit without cracking (too risky) but I have no real experience in doing that and if it is often successful? Any feedback there would be appreciated!
I have another 500-600 cards at PSA right now (from 70, 73, 75, 76, 78, 79) so we'll see how we do there!
The reserve was stated in the item description as SMR, which is currently $2500.
Thanks

happens all the time on every high dollar item and ebay doesn't give a beeeeeeeeeeep.
Thanks for the info, hard to stop those scammers out there. If anyone ever receives an offer like that please feel free to email us to verify authenticity at info@marksfbcards.com
We really don't use the 2nd chance offer option. If something does not sell on Ebay it will be available for purchase in our web store at www.marksfootballcards.com
Thanks!
