Please read this-Public apology

HTubbsHTubbs Posts: 4,138 ✭✭✭
Hello everyone,
Good grief what a mess I have made!
First of all I need to apologize to everyone for my excessive un-professional and generally unacceptable behavior in this whole ordeal with ibzman350 and his half cent. I got mad and made several mistakes.
1. I should not have posted his PM’s without his permission.
2. I should not have described the half cent as problem-free, it wasn’t. I should not have been so thickheaded and stubborn on this issue. I actually did buy this coin as a problem-free VG-8,however I now realize that this should have been completely left out of this auction. I should have just called it at best a VG-8 and said it was an example with disturbances.
3. I should not have made the very un-professional comment about slander. It was completely un-true and unnecessary.
I’m sorry that this was ever made a public affair, as I had thought that this matter was settled through our PM’s. It appears that it still isn’t and I will be working with Herb through PM’s to settle this matter and compensate him for his troubles. I am extending my return privilege to offer him the chance to return this half cent if he is able to find a nicer piece. If any of you have a nice problem-free example that you wish to sell so that I can replace Herb’s I will be more than willing to pay strong money for it. Please PM me…

The biggest thing I need to apologize about to everyone here, is for: (quote)
“repeated, flagrant and disdainful abuse of the forum guidelines”
What I did was just plain wrong and hypocritical. I repeatedly broke forum rules by posting more then one thread in the BST board during one day’s period. In fact there were some days were I had posted up to three threads throughout the day. I sincerely apologize to every board member for making “a mockery of the BST guidelines” and can assure everyone here that it WILL NOT happen again. I am sending personal apologies via PM to those who I have personally wronged with things I said in response to their rightfully confronting me on my actions.
I now understand how wrong I was to do the things I did, and I’m asking you all for a second chance. I know many of you may tell me it’s to late for this, and I’ll admit I should have done this quite some time ago. However I believe everyone deserves a second chance. I have never knowingly tried to rip anyone off when I sell my coins but I’ll be the first to admit that I have made mistakes. No one is perfect. I am no expert when it comes to coins and I’ve definitely had my fair share of deals gone bad. Save for a few occurrences this has mostly involved me getting ripped by “bad” sellers, so I know how it feels. I’m 15 years old and it has been my dream since age 13 to become a Professional Numismatist, something I‘ve worked hard at for the past 2+ years. I want to be a coin dealer that is respected for his honesty, accurate grading and all around ethics. Unfortunately the bumps in the road have been in sales done through this forum. I will admit that I have not handled everything the way I should have. But I have, and am trying to make these issues right and I hope to never make the same mistake again. I am here to make a profit but I’m not a scammer and I want repeat customers who are more than customers but friends as well. I will admit that when I first joined these forum almost a year and a half ago I didn’t have the experience in coins that I do now, so naturally I did run into a problem with differences in grading, etc. I did try to make this right with the buyer on several occasions but he never ended up returning it.
Just to wrap things up I once again apologize for all the un-professional things I have done on these boards and I’m sorry for any problems I have caused any board members. Please if you have something against me, PM me so we can work it out.
As I said before I am not a scam-artist and have not nor intend to rip people off. If you happen to check my eBay feedback you’ll see that this incident with Herb and one negative are the only black marks on my eBay record. All of my other sales have been successful with many repeat buyers.
Please let me have a second chance on these boards.

Thank you,
Hayden Tubbs

Post note:
It has been brought to my attention that people are concerned about me being a non-performing buyer in Ken’s Katrina relief auction. It’s not as it sounds. I won a item for $25 and was supposed to mail out a check, however it slipped my mind not once but twice. This is something I sincerely regret especially since it was such a petty amount and being for relief for hurricane victims. After a reminder on the 28th of September I mailed out the check a day or two after, if I recall correctly. He has probably received payment by now...

  • If you have learned lessons, then I say good.

You will now have a tougher row to hoe. So you will have to understand that people who know your history will hold you to a higher standard. I'm sure you can meet that standard if you try.

One lesson is that if you buy a problem coin as problem free and you didn't/were unable to return the coin you now own the problem. The honorable thing is to note the problem, take the loss, and move on...
  • Very stand up thing to do.

You may not have behaved like a man, but you apologized like one.
  • J.J. Teaparty just sent me an email hawking an 1807 half cent in vg for $57. They're pretty good on grading.
It doesn't say problem free. Just strong motifs (whatever a motif is).
I've found it best to describe all the faults on the coins I sell on Ebay.
    I've never had any returns.
Oh, as far as the apology goes, you certainly don't owe me one.

  • Hayden,

I've never done business with you before, but might in the future. Publicly owning up to mistakes
shows character and I believe most people will give you a chance to show you're sincere.

    Good luck!

    Thanks Hayden for the apology.
There are so many cliche's here....'actions speak louder than words' comes to mind.

Although I disagree with Carl, "So you will have to understand that people who know your history will hold you to a higher standard. ", I just expect the same from you as I do everyone else here, which is of course a higher standard than other smoe's. image

I just had a gut feeling about you and I hope the feeling was correct. Please stand behind every word you have wrote in this post. If you do you will become a very productive member of the forums and most likely a decent numismatist in the future.

    Hayden,

I had the privelege and honor of dealing with you on an ebay transaction when you purchased an NGC MS61 Proof Half Dime from me, recently. I found you to be very articulate, appreciative and professional.
I am kind of new here, but your apology is truly an example of a person who I would get in the foxhole with, anytime.

    Good luck with your career
  • Hayden we have done business from the BST and elsewhere. I have nothing but positive things to say about our relationship. Your post in this thread puts you way above most people involved with coins. I for one applaud you. If you honor what you have said here you should only get the grief that the rest of us do on these boards.

Plus I still love your icon and the "Cow"asaki!

My seal of approval isn't necessary, as I am just one forum member of many. Hayden sure has it though.

Hayden, that sounded like a very sincere and thoughtful apology. Regardless of the events that led up to it, that took considerable reflection, maturity and guts. Good for you and good for the forum. Thank you.

Well I for one missed the underlying dispute, but one thing I have learned is that far too many people on this forum consider everthing that isn't in a PCGS holder as a problem coin and hence not problem free. Now if we had an ANACS forum, or a SEGS forum, or (are we even allowed to say the word here) an ACG forum maybe the biases would be a little different. When in Rome.....

    Hayden,

Great job. Accepting responsibility, even if it's someone else's perception vs. yours is an incrediably mature behavior. Not taking sides between the two of you at all with this statement. It's easy to react and get angry, it takes a stonger character to say what you did.

Just a small tip and probably applies to all of us. When you feel wronged and get angry, go ahead and write that post or e-mail or letter or whatever it is. But DON'T SEND IT for at least a day. Sleep on it, read it the next morning and search your feelings about the tone of it. Ask yourself, if I were reading this how would it make me feel?

Every time I have done this, "counted to 10" I think someone said, my feeling on the matter became more constructive and my communication a lot more effective, while still having civil dialogue. Many times I choose to end it and never send it as some things just are not worth that anger and anguish. And sometimes I realize and accept I can be wrong too.

You are both good people and I look foward to interacting here with each of you in the future.

  • Hayden -- Your first week here at CU you asked if anyone had any seated dimes for sale.
I PM'd you with a list of what I had. You asked for a scan, I sent hi-res scans of both sides.
We agreed on a price and I asked about how you wanted to pay. You replied that I needed to send you the coins
and you would send a check if you liked them. You sounded hurt when I explained that you had to pay first
and I would send the coins with a money back guarantee. Now turn the situation around. Suppose you are a coin dealer on eBay
and someone with a feedback rating of 2 tells you they expect $60 worth of coins on approval. I'm sure you would be as insulted
    as I was.

Your apology and explanations ring hollow. Complaining to a buyer that you are losing money on a transaction is
childish and manipulative. Demanding special treatment where none is deserved comes across as either ignorant or arrogant.
If you want to get off the s**t list you can start by not listing AG Barber dimes as Good +.
