How long will it take for VAMs to show up on PCGS pop reports?

  • Also, will VAMs be added to the registry???

You cansearch by coin number now. A few are out there. VAMs will have their own Registry Sets, I
    believe.

Jack's right about the Registry Sets. Count on there being a Top 100 Registry and a Hot 50 Registry. I also strongly suspect there will be a Top 150 plus Hot 50 Registry.

And here's one for those of you who are up for a Mt. Everest challenge: I've been told there will be a monster Registry consisting of the regular Morgan set plus the Top 100 plus the Hot 50 plus all of the other VAMs they just started recognizing. I'm still trying to count that high, but I think it's something like 370 coins in all. image
    When in doubt, don't.

wow what a monster set that will be! Finding the original dates is hard enough without the VAMs. I wish anyone who tries this set luck!

    Crazy4Coins:

You have to be able to access the on-line pop report (membership). Once you're in, enter a VAM coin number in the "lookup by PCGS No." box in the upper right hand part of the page. There have only been about 200 coins graded so far, so not many of the new numbers will work. One that does work is 133829 (1878 VAM 44 Tripled Blossoms). California appears to have already sent in three of them.
    When in doubt, don't.

They usually try to wait a while before they put them in the reports as the numbers are now low for obvious reasons. They do not want people to hype sales based on really invalid data (pop numbers for a newly created certified coin). It does sound like the database will show you the numbers if you do a search based on the number. I am sure you can get the PCGS number from customer service. If you look at the top of the pop report page, you can see a search box to enter a number to just look up that coin.

Holy Sherlock. I was hoping it would just be the PCGS 275.
  • My hopes are that new collectors will think the 100 Morgans are too much to collect and instead, try for the smaller 50 set of Peace $....image Hey, I can dream right...

Many of the Top 100 are readily available for the new collectors (80/79-S VAM 8,9, 1887 VAM 12, 1891-CC VAM-3 to name a few) and lower the barrier to entry just enough to get them hooked.
