THE SELLER

I wish people like YOU would quit quoting the PCGS price guide when the item that you are selling is not even PCGS graded!! GRRRRRRRRR!!!

Will be interesting to see if they respond.

    My question...

How do you claim no grade is implied when you list MS65 and MS66 with PCGS on the title?
Give Blood (Red Bags) & Platelets (Yellow Bags)!
  • Well, from reading just the title I would say that no grade has been stated or implied. I see a statement of fact, that PCGS values A 65 at X and a 66 at Y, nothing that hints that this coin is either a 65 or a 66. You have made a sloppy inferance because you have not carefully examined the language used. If he had said "PCGS lists this at X in 65" then I would agree with you because there would be at least a tenative connection between the coin in question and a 65 grade. Then I would say he had made an implication.

A rationale person would take this as an implied grade. Why would one list prices well above what a coin is, vs prices of..AU coins which is what this coin is.

Amazing the 100% positive feedback this perosn has on what looks like a bunch of overhyped "estate" coins.

This has all the "watch out" key words of auctions to steer clear of.

    Estate Sale

    All Sales Final

    Previous owner says XX grade

    Out of Focus Pics

    But thet keep on bidding.

I should set up a new e-bay seller ID for just such crap.....no I can't do that to people.

I don't think the bi-line allows for key word spamming

I think it's only the title line.

This seller has worked out all the fine details, so as to keep out of trouble with e-bay.

  • Ya know,

I sat for a while a couple weeks ago and asked the same question, “why do they put that in the listing". In no way am I defending them, however, I think they do that for a couple reasons. 1. So that when people like me are on, I go right to the filtering of the coin "PCGS, Least amount of time left, etc..." and of course their coins will pop up with the others. 2. This way they can say here is what the same coin graded by PCGS is worth, even though it is not close to PCGS grade. I think most of us realize that and so "Martha" has to charge an outrageous price for shipping. Anyway, that is what I think. Thanks for listening.

The link is to a thread about cert, coins on ebay. (How many coins from each co.)

I still wonder how many of the NON-PCGS coins (sellers) use the PCGS list in the auctions?

I guess I'm not rational. (I know people who would agree with that.)

Why list the prices? Because people will make just such an inference, as you say a rational person would, based on information that isn't there.
  • "I can only guarantee that it has not been cleaned while in my possession. "

No, it was in your buddies "possession" while he cleaned it.

My Question to the seller: Hi, since when is an 1898 Morgan Dollar a "Key Date" in the Morgan series?

  • I disagree with the statement that no garade has been stated or implied. I pulled this statement from the auction.

Catalogued as MS 65/66 by the former owner.

Which indeed does imply the coins state.

Yeesh, when crtiticizing someones argument, you should carefullt review your own.

  • The winning bidder has a -1 feedback. Things may work out as they should.

Nope, just another statement of fact. Someone ELSE called it a 65/66. The seller then disclaimed any grade which means he is NOT agreeing or disagreeing with the grade of the former owner. You are still making an inferance based on claims not made by the seller. The only implication I would see from that claim is that the coin should be nice in appearance and possibly that it is MS. I would not expect it to actually grade at the level the previous owner graded it at, though it might.

Maybe that is because you didn't ask one. You made a statement of your desires.
Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.
  • Imply = to involve or indicate by inference, association, or necessary consequence rather than by direct statement.

So, while the seller did not directly state that the coin is MS65/66 she has arguably done so by referencing other material (i.e. by association). Her subsequent disclaimer is therefore somewhat disingenuous.

Of course, it all depends on how seriously you want to take her assertion that the "prior owner" graded it out at 65/66. That and the whole "I didn't clean it" thing as well...image

Buyer is hoping to get back to a -0- feedback with this score. Only thing worse than a buyer with no feedback is one with a minus.image
