News flash Joe - I'm a Phillies fan. Yankees next, and went to Miami in a Yanks jersey for the World Series two years ago.
I don't favor any of the Florida pro teams, except for minor league baseball and hockey.
You see there is this strange phenomenon in sports fandom. Many of us carry our support with us when we leave our hometowns. Grew up near Philly and will always be a fan of Philly teams.
I know that is a hard concept for you to grasp.
The Yankees and Phillies? That is a funny combination. Why the Yankees if you grew up in Philly?

The Yanks story is kind of long but here is the short version.
My wife was born in North Jersey and her family are Yanks fans but I was not until just after Sept. 11.
My profession is disaster response and recovery. After Sept. 11 I spent 24 days in NYC. Watched every game of World Series with 400+ NYPD and NYFD men and women. The experience made me a fan. Before I left the city I bought a Yanks jersey and it continues from there.
JS - no bandwagon in this story. It's called inspiration.

GREAT story. Too bad the Yankees didn't win the WS in 2001 but they made it oh, so interesting in Games 4 and 5. After 9/11 the Yankees inspired many people and were representatives for the whole nation on how the human spirit will prevail even in times of adversity.
